Nissan have created what can only be described as the ultimate supercar the GT-R, its affordable and a supercar that can be driven every single day. To prove how far a production car can be pushed and at the end of the perform.
The car itself is a regular car as the Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said, “The GT-R,” as Ghosn says, “Is a car you can use everyday; a car that can be driven by anyone, anywhere.” However, in order to make this make capable of getting somewhere in a real races series, then Nismo are the people to take it on.
Production car racing is the ultimate test for any stand alone supercar, some can hack it, while other fall to the side in a heap of leather and carbon fibre.
So what do Nismo have to do to prove this car as a potential race car? What better than enter it into the Tokachi 24 Hour endurance race at the Hokkaido circuit in northern Japan.
According to Race Team Director Kumagai-san, he said, “We wanted to complete the full 24 hours of racing, allowing us to properly test the Motul competition oils and Nismo parts.”
The car performed well and despite a few minor mechanical problems, which is only to be expected when fielding a brand new car, they managed to come in at 21st.
Further testing will be carried out on the car at the dedicated testing track at the Nismo Omori Factory headquarters in Tokyo.
A secondary cooling unit was added on the passenger side of the car while a custom made aluminium air duct was made to channel as much cool air into it, the radiator was replaced by a Nismo custom unit, while a rear mounted transmission oil cooler was fitted to complete the job.
Owners of GT-R’s can buy a Chassis Package that includes tuned suspension and new tyres for around $22,150, while those owners who want to go just a little bit further can get the Club Sport Package, this includes the chassis package, titanium exhaust system, and a pair of Nismo leather and carbon fibre seats for $32,850.
