As you may expect, the 240Z was powered by a handy 2.4 litre SOHC straight six engine and it is the start of a pedigree that continues today with Nissan 350Z, as well as all of those classics in between. Therefore, this car is not just a great looking and affordable sports car, the 240Z was laying down the foundations of legacy that is still growing, not many car makers can claim that.

Of course, this car although resembling the car that rolled off the production line forty years ago is a merely a shadow of its former self. For the builder Shaw Takahashi who is based in Hometown Torrance, CA, the car had been stored for some years before planning its rebirth into what we can see now.

First job was to replace the old and tired engine; this was easy enough with the S13 red top, coupled together with a Garrett GT 3071R Turbo and GReddy Intake Manifold, this car now belongs in the 21^st century, even though it has the look of a different era. It is not that often that a classic car becomes a modified car; the two sectors are normally just too different. However, this works, you have the classic style of the 240Z, but under that classic exterior is modern engineering, the best of both worlds you may think.

Check out this classic Datsun Skyline, first produced in 1968 this is the 1971 version, with its classic styling and square features, the car offers a taste of performance driving on a budget during those traumatic times in the 70’s. The Skyline was given the GT-X emblem, but later this would become the GT-R a name that still exists today and is a very desirable machine.

From the images it is clear to see that the car has been brought up to a high standard, in a way the rear quarters appear to have the styling seen on the BMW 6 series, which was another desirable car from the same period. Yet this Nissan or Datsun offers the import builder a chance to get their hands on a piece of motor history, if there were any of these cars to pick up in the first place, because these cars are rare.

The only downside for this particular car is the interior, clearly more time has been spent on the creating a car that looks super cool on the outside and the running gear, which of course are the two main features of any car. no doubt the interior will eventually be tidied up and then this classic Datsun Skyline will be out there showing everyone what they have missed out on.

This car belongs to Quoc Pham, he paid the princely sum of $1,500 for this car around five years ago, after changing the wheels and the giving the car a decent coat of paint, he had a car that was great a turning heads, but when it got down to performance, that was still back in the seventies.

However, it is a great looking car now and it was then, probably more so when they were new because Datsun where the in car maker at the time, even though there was a movement in the US against foreign imported cars at the time.

Clearly this one survived and is now perfectly safe to be left in a car park or at the side of the road, it is the colour that sets this car out from the crowd and you have say it, there is a touch of “General Lee” orange in there maybe that is what we like about this car.

You have to go back to 1997 for the beginning of this story, that was when Rob Fuller noticed a 1970 Datsun 240Z sitting in the driveway of a house in Georgia, it was clear that this car had not been in running order for some time. It was probably something to do with the dirt and straw all over it, but the giveaway was the tags, they had expired in 1986 the car had been standing for eleven years.

The price as ever was too high, yet Rob persevered and managed to get it for a cool $1,000, it was towed back to Robs place where he immediately got to work in cleaning it up in order to get it started.

New oil, battery, and a deep breath the 240Z jumped into life or rather run slightly rough as you would expect, but by March of 1998, the 240Z was ready to hit the road for the first time in a long while.

The job was completed four year ago, when finally, it was time to get some stats, the key to success is power and this car had it in abundance, 440 hp!

When we think of “Z” normally “A” and all of the other letters of the alphabet precede it but when are talking about the wonderful Datsun 240Z we are talking another matter, this car may look mellow in it yellow coating, but this is no slow coach.

This particular model was purchased by Quoc Pham and his father for just $1,500 back in 2003, but as you can imagine the car was a different machine then to what we are looking at in this image. But this is an example of how a not too expensive purchase be turned into something fantastic that people like us simply cannot get enough of.

Now dressed in yellow with a change of transmission to the super five speed version and a change of engine to the L24 complete with the set of triple carbs, the motor has already gained around fifty extra horse power, but this was short lived and the total rebuild that we see now had to be done.

What is great about this job, is that it is a real family effort with Quoc’s mum getting involved with the engine bay paint job, how cool is that.
