Take this custom design and build for the cool Honda Civic Type R, it has been designed to resemble the high performance Honda Civic Mugen Type R from 2005, but it is all show. However, to make a Civic great, the builder is going to need a vision to go with the skills and of course a pocket full of cash too! Who said that building a Honda Civic to the standard that we can see here was ever going to be cheap, the parts used in a build of this standard can often work out more expensive than the cost of the car in the first place, but the results are clear and it is clearly worth it.

One thing that amazes me about this car is that the builder uses it as his daily ride, so this is not a machine that is wrapped up in bubble wrap and transported from event to event. This is a real car driven on a daily basis and that is so cool and worth a trip to LA just to try an catch a sight of the blue body and 16 x 7 inch red Gab Sports Rims, just to add a bit of contrast in there and in fact they do look very cool too!

This maybe the 99 model, but the engine has been replaced with the later 2001, Integra R Type engine, this offers the builder more opportunities to develop the performance as the later engine is so much better than the original power plant. For the import builder, choosing the right model is just the beginning of the challenge, with power outs starting at around 100 HP and rising to over 160 HP, power could be an issues for the builder. however this car is the 1.4 litre version and the builder here has decided to go for looks rather than performance and it has to be said this was the right thing to do.

The first thing that you notice about this car has to be the wheels, you simply cannot miss these great looking eighteen inch Veloice rims that have been cover by massive Falken tyres. Now this is a Honda Civic Si, built in 1994 and basically if Jon Guadalupe (Jon Jon) had not saved this car, it probably would not even be on the road right, let alone looking as it does in far condition than the day that it rolled off the production line over fifteen years ago. It is not luck that the builder himself has been in the business of import building since 1995 and it shows on this project.

It would be easy to pour money into this car, all projects will eat up as money as the builder wants to throw at it, but that is not necessarily going to work. The builder needs to be artist and have the flair with a touch of vision in order to make the most of the budget and produce a wonderful looking car, such as the Honda Civic Si we see before us, this is one of the best examples of this model around, there is no doubt of that.

However, that does not mean that this car has been built on budget, far from it, after all nobody installs $1,800 seats and spends $1,400 on a set of callipers if they are restricted in the finance department. It is just a matter of application, putting the money into the right places, which is the key to a successful build, sure not everyone gets it and sometimes that shows. The design of the car is why this particular model has become a favourite with import builders; there are three models to choose from and up to ten engine choices too! So for the builder looking to get their hands on a cheap but desirable car, the Honda Civic is up there with some of the best cars on the used car market.

It is not unusual to find a Honda Civic CX with body kits and an internal trim that could have come straight out of the car destined for the race track; such is the appeal of this model. Suddenly it became clear that the Civic was good for modifying and for the import builder looking around for a good car to work had plenty to choose from with the Civic CRX, it is a versatile machine with a lot going for it, even today almost twenty years after the last models rolled off the production lines.

Surprisingly the cars wide choice of engine start with a 62 HP 1.5 litre power plant. However, at the other end of the scale there is the 1.6 litre VTEC engine that offers the driver access to around 150 HP, quite a contrast and this is what makes the car so interesting to modifiers, it is the complete range of choices available.

A lot of work has been done on this Civic, both inside and out, it is one of those cars that is the complete package, normally the work would concentrate on performance or looks, this project has done both and in style the body blends in nicely with the original lines, while the engine has been tweaked in all the right places, it is classic example of dedication to a project.

Even down to choosing the colour, yellow, especially a yellow that is so bright is a statement that this is a car that is going to break from convention and take the world by storm in the small car class anyway. Attention to detail is the key to producing a show stopping car, as it is the details that produce the winning cars rather than a bold statement of colour.

It is not just the look of this Honda Civic that impresses us so much. under that bright yellow paintwork there have been some serious changes taking place too, with the addition of kit made by Skunk2, Hondata, JDM and MSD.
