But the Civic is nothing but versatile and because of this it should be a dream car for import builders as they need cars with plenty of spares available and they also have to be something different too, which the Civic is. So take this unassuming looking car and start to pull it apart and you are left with a good base for a great build.

The first thing that stands out with this car is the colouring, this bright yellow and blue design is the colouring of builder racing team, Spoon Sports, this team is well known in Japan not just as a racers. Nevertheless, as testers for Honda too, this car from 1985 is significant because this is when the company was formed, this is where Spoon started and now Tatsuru Ichishima the president of Spoon is a national hero and racing icon.

The car is totally original, this is what Spoon was built on and so it deserves a bit of recognition, as all cars that a led the charge should be, this is a turning point for the company. This car has the 2.0 litre power unit with a lovely six speed manual gearbox, it easily produces around 200 HP and for a car of this size, that is some serious power output. The Civic has always had that sporty edge to it and the third generation Type R does not disappoint in any way, even though it comes in a choice of the three door hatchback or the popular four door sedan body styling.

Modifying a car such as this, take vision and flair to take a fairly new car and make it better, it takes guts to rip a car such that to pieces and then rebuild it in order to make the car better than it is was when it rolled off the production line. But this is more than a car that has been polished and stickered up, this is a car with a racing edge on it, it make look like a Type R, but it is much more than that.

The first thing that stands out is the power, due to some clever engineering this car now produces around 237 HP, which may not seem like a serious increase, but it is when you consider the size and weight of this car. The fifth generation Prelude came with choice of two power units, a 2.0 litre and 2.2 litre four cylinder units, couple together with either a four speed auto or five manual gearbox. Its power was varied too, depending on the selections made before the car was built, the buyer could choose from a 133 HP version right up to the 220 HP model. Yet the Prelude comes with a somewhat dated body design with square lights etc, what is all that about?

Once the import builder gets their hands on car, body shape is the least of their worries for the Prelude is a front engine with rear wheel drive car, which is great for drifting but die hard fans of this style of car would prefer front wheel drive. However, this build has taken a different turn, in fact, the builder is only too pleased that this car has rear wheel drive for it allows him to burn rubber at a seriously high rate and that does make for a good show.

From the specs, it is clear to see that more work has been done under the hood and this is probably why the car sports a nice 500 HP! Now that is what you call power and allows the driver to make a serious show of just what this sort of power is like in car such as the Prelude. This was not an overnight build either, it has taken around two and half years to get to this point and as with all builders he is probably not completely satisfied with the finished job either, but we still like it a lot!

Surprisingly this model was only production for around three years, it is a five door station wagon it is powered by the medium range 1.5 litre engine combined with either the six or five speed manual gearbox or the popular choice of the four speed automatic gearbox. It would have had the option of  FWD, RT/4WD and 4WD too, but this is basically a van converted into a family car, in fact when production ceased the Shuttle continued as the Honda Partner delivery van for a further five years.

So onto this brilliant build, first of all a car such as this Shuttle is not really show car material, but imagine how cool it would be if it were gutted and rebuilt to the extreme then it would be something wouldn’t it? Well read on because this is a car that is on the edges of extreme, in fact the car is almost unrecognisable as a Shuttle and looks more like a special build, which of course is exactly what this car has become.

Extreme is the key here, and power rules we can say this because this is car that boasts a massive 724 HP, oh yes! Basically, you have three body styles, the two door coupe, the three door hatchback and the four door sedan. Then there is the engine choice of a 1.3 litre, 1.5 litre, 1.6 litre and the 1.8 litre, but in the gear box department, there is only the four speed auto and a five speed manual gearbox. Therefore, it is clear to see why the Honda Civic is so popular with so many different types of car buyer.

When we say mildly modified, what we mean is that that this car has got what it takes on the outside, but under the hood and inside little has been done, apart from the three inch exhaust, which as most of us know will produce a really wonderful sound even from a small sized 1.5 litre un-modified engine. This is a car that has been built to turn heads and it certainly does that, it has the sound, the body and it is white too.

When it comes to power, this car comes with the choice of three power units, 1.2 litre, 1.3 litre and the 1.5 litre engines with an output from just 98 HP up to the Mugen Motorsports concept car designed for the 2008 Tokyo Motor Show. This is a car that comes with a supercharged 1.5 litre with an output of 150 HP, so now we understand that the Honda Fit is definitely a car that not only can be modified, it should be modified.

So here we have a Honda Fit, but as you would expect this is not ordinary car, in fact it was initially built for a competition and this beautiful looking machine was the prize. Oh yes this car was the result of a collaboration between Faulkner Honda, HOT92 and Motor Trend Auto Shows, now that would have been one competition that I would have loved to have entered, some guys really do have all the luck!

Just because these cars have been designed to be less polluting and more fuel efficient it does not mean that we have to be driving around in battery powered cars with a top speed of 40 mph and a range of fifty miles on a good day. There are some cool looking cars that are not only fuel efficient they are capable of hitting 0 – 60 mph in under nine seconds, this is where the Honda Compact Renaissance Zero (CR-Z) comes into its own, this car may be classified as a compact hybrid electric automobile, but also that does not mean that it has to be boring.

This particular model has been given the Spoon Sports treatment, this is a true hybrid car designed and built by Honda, and it is powered by a 1.5 litre iVtec four cylinder SOHC engine with Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid-electric system and a six speed manual gearbox. Honda brought out the Si branding for the third generation model in the mid eighties, it meant that slight modifications would be made to the car before it had even left factory. so you can already see the appeal of this branding as it meant someone with no skills or experience could enjoy driving around in something that was slightly different to average Honda Civic, but some people want more and that is when you enter the world of the import builder.

It seems to some car owners that the only alternative would be to take the Acura and turn it into the more sporty Honda Accord Euro R and this is exactly what builder Jason Richardson has done, it looks pretty cool too. This is a project of transformation as well as modification, taking a fairly ordinary family car and turning it into a seriously cool sports sedan.

The problem here is that Jason Richardson has done a brilliant job, there is nothing not to like about the finished car and in the process, and he makes it look too easy. But as we all know the car may look great, but the planning and work that has gone into it would have been staggering, we don’t know how long this project has taken to complete, it sure wasn’t a rush job.

The finished car looks better now than it probably did as rolled off the production line, it has been completely transformed from a family run around to sports sedan. Even those custom powder coated wheels do not look out of place, who would have thought that! With the car completed it is now a Honda Accord Euro R, the Acura TSX has gone and for the better, because the car now is so much better in looks and performance.

The first thing you will notice is the cars most outstanding feature, the Erebuni carbon fibre hood, you just know that these babies don’t come cheap you are probably looking at around $500 for the hood without shipping and fitting, so installing one of these hoods is substantial investment, but at the same time shows that the builder means business.

The Honda Accord is one of those cars that falls in between the family run around and a sports car, it is difficult to please all consumers in this section and yet this is something that Honda has managed to do over the years. Maybe this is why we love the brand and the cars that come out of the factory; the Accord is not exception of to these rules.

Despite its looks this is a work in progress, which is something else that we love to see as all too often we see the finished article, which is fine but it is so much better to see the stages of development that the builder has to go through to achieve their version of the perfect car. In this, the builder has big plans for the future and it will be great to see it in a few months time.
