This car has the 2.0 litre power unit with a lovely six speed manual gearbox, it easily produces around 200 HP and for a car of this size, that is some serious power output. The Civic has always had that sporty edge to it and the third generation Type R does not disappoint in any way, even though it comes in a choice of the three door hatchback or the popular four door sedan body styling.

Basically, you have three body styles, the two door coupe, the three door hatchback and the four door sedan. Then there is the engine choice of a 1.3 litre, 1.5 litre, 1.6 litre and the 1.8 litre, but in the gear box department, there is only the four speed auto and a five speed manual gearbox. Therefore, it is clear to see why the Honda Civic is so popular with so many different types of car buyer.

When we say mildly modified, what we mean is that that this car has got what it takes on the outside, but under the hood and inside little has been done, apart from the three inch exhaust, which as most of us know will produce a really wonderful sound even from a small sized 1.5 litre un-modified engine. Just because these cars have been designed to be less polluting and more fuel efficient it does not mean that we have to be driving around in battery powered cars with a top speed of 40 mph and a range of fifty miles on a good day. Take this custom design and build for the cool Honda Civic Type R, it has been designed to resemble the high performance Honda Civic Mugen Type R from 2005, but it is all show. Sure, the car has the appearance of the Honda Civic Mugen Type R but when it comes to performance, it is a completely different story.

However, to make a Civic great, the builder is going to need a vision to go with the skills and of course a pocket full of cash too! Who said that building a Honda Civic to the standard that we can see here was ever going to be cheap, the parts used in a build of this standard can often work out more expensive than the cost of the car in the first place, but the results are clear and it is clearly worth it.

One thing that amazes me about this car is that the builder uses it as his daily ride, so this is not a machine that is wrapped up in bubble wrap and transported from event to event. This is a real car driven on a daily basis and that is so cool and worth a trip to LA just to try an catch a sight of the blue body and 16 x 7 inch red Gab Sports Rims, just to add a bit of contrast in there and in fact they do look very cool too!

For the import builder, choosing the right model is just the beginning of the challenge, with power outs starting at around 100 HP and rising to over 160 HP, power could be an issues for the builder. however this car is the 1.4 litre version and the builder here has decided to go for looks rather than performance and it has to be said this was the right thing to do.

The first thing that you notice about this car has to be the wheels, you simply cannot miss these great looking eighteen inch Veloice rims that have been cover by massive Falken tyres. However, there is much more to this car than first meet the eye, it is the interior that has seen the most work done on it and it is pretty spectacular by anyone’s standards.

Music is the key here; you have to think that the design has been thought up by someone where music plays a major part in their life, with exception of the exterior paint work. One of the first things that you notice about the Civic is the space available under the hood, this means that swapping the engine, adding components such as superchargers and the gear needed to make it work is easy. There is also the added advantage of the builder being able to reroute the wires and cables, as has been done with this build.

From the data provided it looks as if this car is well capable of producing around 160 HP from its 1.6 litre engine, which is nice going. It is not too powerful as to make it a track only car and it has the necessary power to produce that wonderful sound that can be heard several blocks away, but in a way that makes you cringe, the sound makes you want to know where it is coming from and you are not disappointed.

The car has been finished off in a black that is so deep that you feel that you could almost put your hand into the panel, while in contrast the interior has been a bright red finish. This may sound a bit over the top whereas in fact the interior is seriously well thought out and any other colour just would not make the grade in the case, as this is one hell of Honda Civic Si.

Now this is a Honda Civic Si, built in 1994 and basically if Jon Guadalupe (Jon Jon) had not saved this car, it probably would not even be on the road right, let alone looking as it does in far condition than the day that it rolled off the production line over fifteen years ago. It is not luck that the builder himself has been in the business of import building since 1995 and it shows on this project.

It would be easy to pour money into this car, all projects will eat up as money as the builder wants to throw at it, but that is not necessarily going to work. The builder needs to be artist and have the flair with a touch of vision in order to make the most of the budget and produce a wonderful looking car, such as the Honda Civic Si we see before us, this is one of the best examples of this model around, there is no doubt of that.

However, that does not mean that this car has been built on budget, far from it, after all nobody installs $1,800 seats and spends $1,400 on a set of callipers if they are restricted in the finance department. It is just a matter of application, putting the money into the right places, which is the key to a successful build, sure not everyone gets it and sometimes that shows. Not in this case though, as this Honda Civic Si rocks in the best possible way.
