Maybe it is because the GS300 is a luxury car or simply the cost, why import builders have stayed away from it, but not any longer it would seem because this second generation model has been given the modified treatment. Clearly this model comes with the 3.0 litre straight six power unit producing around 230 HP through the four or five speed auto gearbox, so not much to do there then, apart from a bit a filter and exhaust upgrade.

Most of the modifications have been cosmetic, with this car, it is all about the look and this is a car that comes with a seriously cool look, sure, it is pimped out but isn’t that what we are interested in looking at, it is a powerful big and black machine that looks intimidating, because it is! This is however a serious design and there has been plenty of work put into it, that is clear.

With low profile tyres on those huge nineteen inch wheels, the deep high gloss paintwork and the mystery of who would drive such a car, this Lexus GS300 has it all and more besides. Clearly this has project has gone for looks and succeeded big time, the Lexus that was once designed for the business user has now become part of the pimping scene and we hope to see many more GS300’s modified in the future.

Based on the Toyota Altezza, the IS300 comes with a nice 3.0 litre straight six engine, with a choice of a four or five speed automatic and a five or six speed manual gearbox, as well as all of the luxuries that Lexus customers demand. The car would have be producing around 220 HP, which for a car straight off the production line and aimed middle managers is not a bad platform to start from when taking on the Lexus IS300 as the next car to modify.

However, this modified Lexus IS300 is on a completely different level to the car that rolled off the production line in 2002! To put it into perspective, this is a car capable of touching 10.22 over the timed quarter mile (Bugatti Veyron does it in 10.8 seconds) clocking up a trap speed of around 144 mph, these are not the figures that you would expect to find in a production car. However, in a car that has 850 WHP under the gas pedal and is not afraid to use it.

The car belongs to New York based, James Suh and he clearly has vision in order to plan this car out, it takes a methodical approach to pull a job like off, but that is exactly what has been done here. This may be the vehicle of choice for some well healed execs, but it seems that some import builders also like the idea of rolling around in a bit of luxury and of course, there are not going to be many modified Lexus GS430’s around and that is what makes this car so interesting to us. We hardly ever give these luxury cars a second glance, but modify it and we are going to be all of it.

One of the first things that you notice about this car is the deep black finish; it is so black that you could step into the darkness. However, this black is complimented with some serious chrome features too, which highlight the lines and those twenty inch Junction produce Heritage III wheels just finish off the exterior to standard that Lexus have failed to do!

It seems that although the car is still a luxury motor, with its leather seats and technology laden dashboard. But that is inside the car behind those dark tinted windows, on the outside it is a slightly different story, there is no sign of chrome or colour, the entire car is finished in black and that adds to the image of the machine.

This is car that offered the buyer a choice of the 3.0 litre V6, 3.5 litre V6 or the fantastic 5.0 V8 engines, as well as the choice of a six speed auto or manual gearboxes, or the specialist eight speed automatic gearbox. The body has been given the full Job Design treatment, in fact there are not many firms providing body kits for the SC430. clearly they do not see the potential in building such a wonderful car either, but it seems that import builders will be taking a closer at the sporty cruiser that Lexus have built for cool executives who like to take the coast road to work.

It’s amazing really that this car first hit the shows in Paris 2000, but even then it was not greeted as being a classic in the making, to many people the SC430 is merely rebadged Toyota Soarer, but that is not entirely true. The SC430 uses the 4.3 litre V8 power unit with a choice of a five speed or six speed automatic gearbox, even so that is good for 288 HP and will take the car from 0-60 mph in a mere 6.2 seconds.

Standing out on this finished car are the wheels, normally the wheels fit the body, but in this case it looks as if the body has been built around the wheels, it’s all about width it seem and in order to fit a 20” x 9.5” wheel at the front the some minor work has been made to bodywork. This Lexus may have pink wheels but that is not a sign of weakness, in fact, it could be taken as the complete opposite, because to have wheels painted in those colours, you are going to need to have something impressive to back it up with. On the other pink is a cool colour and they may just like it!

This is 2005 model, which is the last of the first generation IS cars, but despite the age this Lexus is very desirable and came with choice of 2.0 litre and 3.0 litre engines and four choices of gear box. So looking at the these images that Steve Demmitt has taken it is clear that this is no Toyota by anybodies standards, this is a brand that stands alone now and competes with the best performance cars in the world and does alright against them. This new Lexus IS F is something else though, offering 416 HP from the 5.0 ltr 32 valve V8 engine.

This model is the auto version, but with eight gears, it is hardly going to feel like it, because those gears and the superb engine means that access to all of the HP is almost instant, unlike the standard auto car, which can be a little bit restricted when in racing conditions.

Take a look at those wheels too, they are chromed and because there are is no other silver coloured bodywork on the car these wheels really shine through as they are supposed to, although they are all right in the dry weather, when it is wet they end up looking like any other wheel.

As move into the interior I love what they have done with the paintwork by continuing the green right through into the car’s interior, sometimes this practice does not look good. However in this case the green flows through the dash and out the other side with ease, it is a cool looking car from every angle.

One of the good things about this build is that a lot of visible parts such as the grill have been cannibalised from other Lexus models, there is however a serious amount of carbon fibre surrounding this car, this of course helps with the heat displacement and it lighter too which is always going to help.

The great thing about this car is that you can feel at home driving this to the shops or work, as well ripping it up around a track at the weekend. A truly great build in my mind is something that can be very versatile and switch from one mode to the other with no great alterations needed at all.
