Nicely modified Mazda RX 8

The RX series of sports coupes from Mazda have always had a sort of cult following from fans who understand where Mazda is coming from. However, the RX 8 changed all of that by opening up the brand and indeed this model to a wider audience as the design and style of this car becomes pleasing on the eye as well delivering some serious performance.

The car in question has been modified to produce a top notch performance car, but at the same has managed to keep the style and design of the original car from the outside. While there are some slight additions to the bodywork such as the side skirt, this blends in nicely and is not over the top or bulky, as some cars seem to be.

It is performance that the RX 8 delivers and even before the modification, this was a car that for its size offered performance well over what would be expected from a car sporting a 1.3 litre engine. However, this is Wankel technology and so in its basic configuration the RX 8 would be delivering around 210 HP and that is before any modifications had taken place.

With that sort of performance, there is little that can or should be done under the hood, although it is not unknown for an RX 8 to be modified to deliver in excess of 250 HP with only some minor adjustments to the set up. This all rounder has performance and looks going for it, these are two main features for an import builder to go for; it works very well in this case.

The top selling Mazda Miata MX 5

According to many sources, the beautiful and sleek Mazda Miata MX 5 is one of the best selling sports cars in the world ever! That is quite a statement when we think about the completion that is out there, but looking at the Mazda with its low profile, pop up headlights and just a great all round driving experience, it is clear to see why this car is so popular.

But now this drop head sports car is being taken on by the import builders, not that there is much to do with the exterior of this car; it is still becoming a builders dream machine. This one is owned and built by Peter Li; it is the 1992 model, although by the look of it that would be hard to tell for someone with no experience of these cars.

Finished in bright red, there is a feel for speed look to this car, sitting just a few inches off the ground the Miata has a menacing look to it and would impress any sports car owner with its grace and style. When this car was first taken on by Peter is was in immaculate condition from top to bottom and yet in true builder’s style the car has to gutted and rebuilt to its new standard.

When new, this would have come with either the 1.6 litre or 1.8 litre engine and a choice of either a four speed auto or five speed manual gearbox. It would have been producing around 120 HP, which is good enough for a car that is so light, but following the modifications under the hood the power must have been increased, although there are no figures to back this up.

Modified Mazda racing machine

This is a great example of what can be done with a super Mazda RX7. In fact, this is the sort of thing that stirs the imagination where anyone can take a standard road car, modify and race it. What could be better than that? Sure, there is an element of expertise needed to get to this level, but some of these teams have been around for years.

Building a car with a view for racing is so satisfying for the owner, especially if the car happens to be up there with some of the established teams. Being a privateer gives the owner the freedom to choose how they operate; it is a bit like the corner store taking on Wal-Mart!

Modified family car the Mazda6

To gauge the success of the brand or model of car you would normally look at two things, sales and length of production run, the Mazda6 was one of those cars that had been conceived to serve the family market and the first generation model ran for over six years. In car terms, that is a successful fun and now the Mazda6 is high up on the car modifiers shopping list.

One fine example of this trend is the Mazda6 built by Chris Zitkevitz from New Jersey; he bought this car not with the intention of making any modifications to it, as the car was intended to be just that his car! However, one modification led to another and before long, the car began to change as well as the amount of cash being spent on it.

The original car came with a wide choice of options, such as the 1.8 litre, 2.0 litre, 2.3 litre and the 3.0 litre V6 engines together with four, five or six speed auto and five or six speed manual gearbox choices. Classic Mazda RX 7 build

There is a lot of debate on the subject of which RX model is the best, normally the model favoured by certain people often reflects their age, this is because as a young driver who aspires to own a Japanese sports car, they directly relate to the model that out at the time. However, it seems that overall the FD version of the RX 7 is regarded as one of the most favoured.

This particular car has some serious backing, with Veilside and iForged being involved in the build; in fact, this car is actually owned by Vicent Wong from iForged, so the car was always destined to become one of the best modified RX 7’s in the US possibly the world, unless anyone else has any other ideas.

The car has been sympathetic to the cars curves and lines, but at the same has been able to push the boundaries a little further to produce an eye catching example of this already highly desirable car. Finished in the Yellow and Black, the initial response to this car may not be a good as expected, but it grows on you, before long the car looks fantastic.

you could say that no expense has been spared on this project, but while that may not be totally true, the amount of work that must have gone into this project is what makes this car what it is, a perfect example of how a build can look when you have all the right connections and resources.

Super modified Mazda RX 7

The Mazda is one of the worlds less understood cars, probably because of the engine set up and how they are able to produce so much power from such a small power plant. But this is one of the third generation RX 7 it was built in 1993 and when the current owner, Ben Abutin got his hands on this car it was to say the least a little under the weather, with plenty of work needing to be done, in other words, ideal builder material.

It is funny how modifying cars takes on a different feel depending on where the owner is located, different cultures, costs and availability of parts all play their part in the development of a build. However, it still seems that the builder knows what is right for their patch and more importantly, what is not right.

This Mazda6 lives in New York and so it looks like a regular Mazda6 as would have come off the production line, but looks can be deceiving and when you live in a big city it is not always a great idea to show off everything that you have. This car does that well behind the body of a family sedan is the heart and brain of a thoroughbred racing machine.

As you can see from the specifications below, very little work has been done on the exterior, but on contrast to that, the engine and transmission modifications have seen extensive work on them. In fact, the exterior has subtle changes and beautiful coat of paint, so it has not been left out of the build at all.

This model is one of the last first generation Mazda6 to leave the factory, there would have been a choice of 1.8 litre, 2.0 litre, 2.3 litre and 3.0 litre engines, with a four, five or six speed auto, or five and six speed manual gearbox choice. These are front wheel drive cars and the power delivered can vary from around 136 HP to over 300 HP, now that is an exciting ride.

Serious but subtle modified Mazda6

When you see a modern car that comes under the heading of modified, it often falls into two categories: first the will be the fully modified show or racing car that has been modified to the max and it is very clear exactly what work has been done on the car.

Then there is the subtle modification, this usually involves taking a late year car and modifying to the max, but in a way that to the untrained eye the car looks almost exactly as it did when was driven out of the factory. This modification is one of these; the car looks A1 because it looks as if nothing has been done to it.

The work has been evenly spread around this car with some changes under the hood, such as a new short ram intake and custom turbo inlet pipe. Whereas around the car there are slight additions and changes that appear to be part of the original design, but are not and the only way you would is if this car was standing next to an identical factory finished model.

It used be a popular thing to do during the eighties to make a car appear to be another brand or model and it seems that this trend has continued into the world of import building and modders, with this Mazda or Lotus being a prime example of how to make a good car look like another equally brilliant car.

It was said that Mazda drop head coupe was based on the Lotus Elan of the 1960’s and this Mazda Miata finished in the colours and style of a Lotus Elan from that time period, just goes to show exactly how close in design these two cars are.

You have to hand it to David Wooley, who has taken this fantastic Mazda and made into something beautiful that resembles the classic Lotus of the past. Now this is definitely not something that you would expect to find modified, it is a 2003 Mazda Protege and back in 2003 it would have been used for the weekly shop and daily school run. But now there is no room for kids and groceries, this is car that has been modified to the limit and yet still carries the shape of the car.

Apart from high gloss orange finish the exterior has been left more or less alone, which is a good sign as that means the interior and under the hood have been modified to the extreme! Well hopefully in any case. The engine has been given the full treatment, as the specs below will show and so has the interior.

This is the ninth generation of this model Mazda although it would have gone under one of a whole list of names. Anyone looking for a good example of an import car build need look no further, for this Mazda ticks all of the boxes, as it has style, design and it just looks cool, as a build should do. However, you can still tell that this is Mazda RX 7 and a good one at that.

Being finished in a dark colour helps as it shows off the shape and fine details of the model, in fact this car has the look of different cars depending on which angle you are looking at it from. That is a great thing about it, as you have to do a double take on it to make sure you are right about the make and model.

Cars such as this one demonstrate what the owner knows about the business, in this it is Chase McGehee, he understands what the car is all about and what can be done to make it better. Most people would think that the RX 7 was brilliant on its own.

The Mazda 3 is well known as a typical family or even first car for a new driver, but this is car that is not for the faint hearted or for people that have high risk insurance. The beauty of this build is that the actual lines of the original car can be clearly seen and this is a good thing when it comes to building a new car.

Hardly anything has been left untouched in this build with a lot of going on under the hood and in the interior, but that does not mean the exterior has been left alone, far from it as the bodywork has a supreme finish and the panels line up nicely with is so important on a build such as this.

This build is based on the second series 3 model, it comes with a range of engines from 1.6 litre, 2.0 litre, 2.2 litre and a 2.5 litre version, with a five speed auto or manual and a six speed manual gearbox. The different configurations offer 109 HP up to 270 HP, so even at the production level there are so many choices to be made.

The Tri-Phase module utilizes a triad of operating parameters that enable the user to select their desired performance level. The Tri-Phase functions by intercepting sensor outputs, modifying them, and outputting them to the vehicle’s onboard computer. Drifting is one of those sports that built up in Japan, but quickly became very popular around the world, now drifting events are regularly seen in the UK and the USA. However, it seems that the drifters still prefer a Japanese imported car to home grown cars and the Mazda RX 8 is one of the best for this type of motorsport.

This particular car has been the work of Justin Pawlak and the Bergenholtz Racing team, along with Nitto Tire. The Mazda RX-8 Drifter they have come up with is something very special indeed not only is it powerful, it produces over 600 HP, but the car has specifically built for the purpose and it delivers everything that the driver needs when they need it most.

Originally the car would have been built with a 1.3 litre engine producing at the basic level around 150 HP, but later variations of the car offered the buyer the choice of different levels all the way up to 250 HP. For a road going car that is something very exceptional indeed, but then again the Mazda RX 8 is an exceptional vehicle, it may be misunderstood but it is one of the best.

The Mazda RX 8 is brilliant and super cool car, but it is definitely not for the faint hearted as this is a car that can literally blow your socks off and that is before import builder like this have done their work and produced a car that that would be wasted on a non racer.

This car has been built by Speed Machine Performance (SMP), they run a retail side and a builder side of the business, while choosing the Mazda RX 8 platform to build on they have picked a car that is loved by a select few, or rather lucky drivers who get the chance to sit behind the wheel of these cars.

This may be powered by a small 1.3 litre engine, but this is rotary power and as such the car would have been producing a massive 220 HP through to the wheels. The advantage is clear that these engines are small and light, while producing a big package of power that is bound to put any other car in the class to shame.

Could this be the same car that initially sold to consumers so that they could do the weekly shop, go to work and take the kids to school? In short, the Mazda 6 is one of those family cars that someone who is a bit sporty would not give a second glance to, but they would now.

This is a Mazda 6 and before Chris “Kit” Kitkevitz got his hands on it, it could well have done the work of the standard family car. However, no it is hard to even think about seeing a car such as this parked up in the drive or waiting outside of the school waiting for the kids.

Surprisingly the production car had a choice of 1.8 litre, 2.0 litre, 2.3 litre and 3.0 litre V6 engines and a choice of a 4 speed Sport automatic, 5 speed automatic, 5 speed manual, 6 speed automatic and 6 speed manual gearboxes.

Therefore, the car is far from the standard family car, that we first believed it to be. However, this modified version is something else and it tells us something about the builder too. He is someone that does not conform to the standard thoughts on what something should look like; in short he is an artist as they is what the great painters believed in.

The Mazda Miata or MX 5 depending on where you come from is not the sort of car that you would expect to see modified. Being a drop head coupe sport car, normally that would be enough for the owner, but in this no it was not and so we find that this fantastic car has a lot more to offer than what any onlooker would first think.

The modifications appear to be mainly for looks rather than performance as the MX 5 or Miata already has plenty of speed to go round. However, for the import builder the shape and lines of the car are just as important, it is clear to see that there was no holding back when they got to work on the fantastic looking car.

The original car would have offered the choice of a 1.6 litre or 1.8 litre power plant and a four speed auto or five speed manual gearbox. Nevertheless, these engines still produce between 120 HP and 131 HP, which on a car of this size, it weighs around 2,000 lbs is pretty useful when you put your foot down and open it up.

This is a cool car that would shock granddad to the core, as it was originally devised as the car for going to the supermarket or mall, possibly even on vacation once or twice a year. However, never would it have been considered to be the perfect car for modifying and of course some serious racing.

There are four choices of power plant, starting with the 1.8 litre, 2.0 litre, 2.3 litre and the 3.0 litre V6. There was more choice of gearbox too, with the 4, 5 and 6 speed auto or the 5 and 6 speed manual box, whatever the options chosen this car can be maxed out at 146 HP.

The featured car is currently located in New Jersey, where the owner Chris (Kit) Zitkevitz has taken this run of the mill old person’s car and turned into a right monster car. The car is seven years old already and yet it performs better now than it did when new.

This no ordinary car, it has won some serious competitions, such as the Philadelphia International Auto Show. This Mazda6s has been a magazine cover car and the winner of the ultimate Mazda car comp, the Best Mazda at the Importfest 2007, which is not any simple matter by all accounts.

The classic Mazda RX 4

This is classic car by all accounts; first up it, dates back to 1974 and actually looks much better now than it did when rolled off the production line in Hiroshima, Japan. The belongs to Juni Asuncion who runs the JRX Rotary in Southern California.

Originally, these care would have been called the Mazda Luce Rotary, but we now know it as the Mazda RX 4, it was powered by a 130 HP engine, but this was later reduced to 125 HP for export! Which just goes to show that not all cars 70’s were gas guzzlers with big engines and a low mpg ratio.

However in the USA, the car was launched in 1974 with a solid power plant producing just 110 HP, with a starting price of $4,295, it would have managed a 0 to 60 mph in 11.7 seconds and take 18 seconds to cover the quarter mile.

The version of the car seems to have been modified for looks rather than performance, it means that while the car looks better that it used to, when comes to performance nothing has much changed, but that is what modifications are about, creating a car that the owner wants and not the other way around.

The All Star Mazda MX 5 Racer

Check this car out and you will no doubt be surprised that this is a car dating back to 2006. However, due to the amount of work that has gone into this car apart from the body there is little under the hood that is the same as when it rolled off the production line. This is a cool car by anyone’s standards as it has been designed to race rather than cruise along the road.

The Mazda MX 5 third generation came with a 1.8 litre producing 126 HP and 2.0 litre engine producing 158 HP along with a choice of three gearboxes, a five speed manual, six speed manual and a six speed automatic. Performance wise the car had maximum top speed of 134 mph and would be able to travel to 62 mph from zero in 8.2 seconds.

The Mazda RX8 by Sammy Lam

Check this Mazda RX8 out, its brilliant red colour bodywork is testament to the intentions of the builder, apparently when Sammy Lam bought this Mazda everything was working fine, naturally in order to make sure that this car was perfect in every single way, he set about replacing virtually every part with shiny brand new parts!

Of course there are plenty of fans of the RX8, there are also plenty of the people around that have little knowledge of the Wankel Rotary Engine. which in the RX8 is only 1.3 litre but produces a whopping 210 HP on the four port Renesis version or alternatively the six port Renesis with six speed manual gearbox produces 250 HP.

The Brilliant Modified Mazda RX7

Whatever way you look at the Mazda RX7 it is a smart looking car, but when it comes to performance many people are surprised at the amount of power that can produced from such a small engine.

This modified car is the series six series of the third generation of the car, it produces an amazing amount of horse power, varying from 255 to 280 from the small 1.3 litre engine, and this is coupled with either a five speed manual or four speed automatic gearbox.

In the US there three models, starting naturally with the base model, then the touring and finishing off with the R model, they each had a various amount of specs and kit, which could include; leather seats, sunroof, Bose music system, stiffer suspension and an aerodynamics package.

Because this car has been finished off in red it seems to ooze power and performance, which is does because of the small engine it gains a weight advantage too this in turn means better performance, acceleration and fuel economy if you are worried about that sort of thing, which we of course are not!

The cool Mazda RX8 is one of those underestimated cars that in the right hands can become some sort of super car, but it takes import builders with style and know how, cash helps too! To take a standard off the production line sports car build it up and show it off, take more than just money and facilities it’s a skill and a lifestyle.

The Mazda RX8 came out in 2003, but in actual fact is still going strong too, it is a four door coupe although you wouldn’t know it! Believe it or not the standard engine was a 1.3 litre version of the Wankel rotary engine, but there were some upgrades to a four port producing 210 HP or the more powerful six port offering 250 HP.

But that sort of performance is not going to win any medals, it is down to BMI Racing to sort that out with, twin Bosch Motorsport fuel pumps with four 1200 cc RCX injectors, now we are talking and this set up will provide a massive 610 HP, just what the doctor ordered in fact!

The Mazda RX8 is a great looking car as it stands, but modified to the extent that this car has been takes the car to another level. In fact, the owner or owners of this car are pretty lucky because not only has the Mazda been fitted out almost all of the goodies that you would ever wish for; it also has some serious sponsorship too by the looks of it.

Even though this car may come from 2004, it has the look of something much newer and definitely has a certain appeal with gunmetal grey as the main colour for the body, with accents of red and black picked up by the interior. Those Topspeed racing seats really do look the part in bright red.

The retro Mazda RX 3

it is not that often that retro and import building can be used within the same sentence, but in the case of this Mazda RX 3 both terms are quite apt and so here it is a styled Mazda that dates back to 1973. The shape and style of this model it supreme and that would be before the work of the current owner Arnell Llog got his hands on this machine.

Back in the day when this rolling off of its production line it would have been producing around 110 HP which for then would have been good, there were plenty of cars around during those day that would be producing much less than that.

Now the RX 3 will give you around 312 HP, now there is a huge gap between to the two and as such this car is quite cool. Its body work has been updated with flared arches and a classic paintjob of yellow and black. It has the look of a muscle car from the 70’s; well in fact, we should suppose that this is a muscle car now.

After two years in the shop this is the result an you have to admit it, this one super looking Mazda RX7. But of course it was not just time that was poured into this car plenty of cash has been forked out on this project too and it shows. This is a car that it is little wonder that HIN Import Nights chose it to be the main Tour Car in 2007

Attention to detail is key here, after all who else other than an import builder pro would have the engine taken out just so that the engine bay could be sprayed properly. The body kit cost a full $12,000 and that did not include the paint job or installation come to think of it. It just goes to show that even the pro’s have to pay out too.

As for the performance of this Mazda, after all the work and investment that has gone into this car what you get is a massive boost from the HKS turbo and not a drop of nitrous oxide in sight. So do we think that this car is so powerful already that it doesn’t need a touch of Nitrous here and there.

A Mazda Dream Fulfilled

When it comes to a performance car, the Mazda in any shape or form is never really going to be the first choice of anyone, this is one of those makes that actually creeps up on you and grabs you from behind, once capture you quickly become a Mazda owner through and through.

So what started off as $4,500 purchase has ended up looking like a competition winning car that has too many features to list or even begin to mention. Yet this is a car with something extra, in fact any car producing around 442 HP cannot be ignored, what’s more this is a car that turns heads and why not.

The air filter can be totally taken apart and cleaned. The foam is denser and more thicker than the Dragon filter.

The velocity stank inside the air filter is a TRUE VELOCITY STACK. The Air filter has Ram Air capability, by hooking up the hose to the top of the air filter.

The intake has another Air Passage way inside the intake pipe to create an Air Fusion, imagine 2 different pathways of air inside the intake pipe, one air travelling in pathway #1 going 2 x faster than pathway #2. Smooth Mazda MX 5

When this car first came many people believed that it was a design based on the old Lotus Elan from the 1960’s and of course it does show some similarities to that classic design. But this Mazda has to be much better than the Lotus because it has been going for such a long time and still looks great.

This car is owned by Jennifer Staton and it does her so much justice because this is a car that is not over built, it has be lovingly restored to better than it was when it first came off the production line and that is saying something.

There have not been too modifications on the Mazda, although you can still get around 140 HP out it and for a car of that size is pretty good stuff. This is a nice small car that looks really cool.

A blast from the past!

This car can only be described as a blast from the past, after all it was built in 1974 and that was a long time ago even by my standards. Yet this is car with flair and style something that you only get in the 1970’s, while some people say that those were the days of plastic and cheap metal, this is a car the bucks that trend.

The RX-4 as with other Japanese cars of the period has a touch of Americana in there, depending on which angle you are looking at it from, you can see a bit of Mustang, Camaro and in extreme cases there is sometimes a touch of Corvette in there.

The Mazda is slightly deceptive too, because under the hood there is a 13B rotary engine fresh out of a RX-7, to boost this, a Camden 7” supercharger has been added to the mix, this will produce around 300 HP, which for a car of this size is awesome.

The Mazda is one of those cars that you either love or hate, personally I love these cars, RX sports car has been one of those must drive cars for some time, in fact ever since the RX models came out. And yet it is only recently that the Mazda range has been welcomed onto the driveways and parking lots.

This version is living proof that theses cars are desirable and main reason for that now, is because so much can be done to them. Whereas before the engine design scared most people, sure there were those brave souls who figured it out, but Mr Average was stunned at the complexity of the machine.

One of the main features on this car is the spoiler, it is huge and can be seen from quite a distance, and there is a very good reason for that too, without it the driver would have a hard time keeping control of the car, especially when it comes to a nice long winding bend, that just encourages a foot load of gas pedal towards the end.

A beautiful Mazda Carbon 6 S

This car is all about looks, from the outside, you can plainly see that it has been worked on extensively and that is just the fantastic looking paint work that shines in the sun or rain it is not that fussy.

Around the car, there are minor mechanical modifications, but what makes this car a star is the interior dash area, you can see from the image that it is simply more than special; in fact, the enterprise would have a job to compete with this set up. Breathtaking would be what we call it as that is the only phrase that can aptly describe it.

Even though there has been some major attention to detail, this is also a clean job too if that is at all possible. There may be flashes of bright red around the interior, but these are cleanly installed with no messy last minute additions that look so awful, it is understandable why this car is in great demand.

The air filter can be totally taken apart and cleaned. The foam is denser and more thicker than the Dragon filter.

The velocity stank inside the air filter is a TRUE VELOCITY STACK. The Air filter has Ram Air capability, by hooking up the hose to the top of the air filter.

The intake has another Air Passage way inside the intake pipe to create an Air Fusion, imagine two different pathways of air inside the intake pipe, one air travelling in pathway #1 going 2 x faster than pathway #2. When the two different pathways of airflow meet at the end of the pipe they create a fusion effect which enhances the AIR SPEED of the by three times.

The Secret Weapon Intake Systems is a result of countless hours of testing and tuning of air intake velocity, Air mass and Airspeed for each vehicle application. The Result, an intake system that performs better than any Cold Air Intake, but with a Short Ram. It is possible by Weapon*R’s Patent Pending Speed Velocity theory, by creating a higher airspeed in the intake path you increase air mass and airspeed, which greatly increase horsepower.

This is possible by creating two different paths of airflow, both flowing at different airspeeds, due to the tubing diameter in which the air is travelling. Now when the two different paths of air meet, they create a vacuum, which is where the airspeed starts to multiply, forcing more air into the engine at a higher rate, creating more horsepower.

The Secret Weapon Intake Systems are carefully CNC mendrel bent out of 6061 Aluminium, and then Hand Tig Welded in sections to ensure a constant balance in airflow, regulation in airspeed, positive seal and proper fitment. Each one of these intake systems are carefully tuned, by matching the engines displacement, air intake capacity and airspeed to the intake systems tube size, length and secondary pathway tubing diameters to maximize the full potential of the SECRET WEAPON INTAKE SYSTEM.

We have seen several Mazda RX7’s recently and that is very surprising considering that we have not seen many of these great cars for a while and then all of sudden a few come along at the same time.

However, we must not complain because we need variety in this market as the it would not do for all of the cars to be the same or to have all of the same designs etc. this particular car is very nice to at its lines and just the way that it stand looks so brilliant, even the silver colour comes across as being made for this car, especially as they nearly always used to be in a orange or red colour.

This Mazda has not had a lot of work on it or so you would think because from the outside this cars looks just as good as it did when it left the factory in 1993. Yet underneath that beautiful exterior, there have been some serious work been undertaken, and it works well as everything seems to do.

The RX7 from Mazda is one of those cars that were always difficult to get your hands on when the cars were first out and now it seems that the car is just as hard to find as it used to be. It is amazing how this Mazda model has stuck around for so long and looking good at the same time. This does not mean that the car is not popular on the contrary in fact when this car was first hitting the roads fan of Mazda couldn’t get enough of them and that would seem to be the same right now.

Try and get your hands on one these cars now and it is just as hard now as it was back then so some things very rarely change when it comes to certain vehicles they hard to get when they are and just as hard to get when they are old, it just one of those things.

Check this car out! It has had so much work done on it runs into many hours of hard work to get this car looking this way, the silver paintwork that just does the car so much justice. 1993 Mazda RX-7 – F-The Purists

The Mazda RX-7 from the early nineties is one of those cars that seemed to have come and gone, maybe it was the sign of the times or just that Mazda had fallen out of favour with its fans. So when one comes along like this example by Bruce Kress, not only does it bring back memories of the car got away, but it shows that at least someone had the vision to build this one into a fantastic looking machine.

This is almost a classic car yet it has the lines of modern build, especially inside where there has been a lot work done on it. Not all of the work will be to everyone’s taste in fact even the owner calls it “Osaka Style” which basically means you take a great looking car and then ruin it by adding too much. You see builds like that all of the time though, so there really is nothing wrong with going over the top, that is what import building is all about.

Mazda RX7 in silver

This is stunning looking car that has had a lot of time and cash spent on it, but the results are something beautiful, it could even be a work of art. It has smooth silver lines and curves, but occasionally there is the flash of red Bride seats coming through the window. Red and silver is such a great combination of colours.

This is probably one of the curviest RX7’s around; it has bulges, curves and arches that blend together in perfect harmony. It really is a fantastic looking car that is capable of delivering around 345 HP at the rear wheels, which is something to think of when you have this car sitting behind at a junction.

The Mazda RX7 has been and still is a great car, this one is a great example of this model that has been carefully worked at and the finished item is absolutely top notch.

What about this car, it is a 1992 Mazda Miata a seriously fast car considering that it is a hardtop fastback machine. They reckon that this is one of those cars that once you have had one there is no turning back, it’s a debatable scenario that a lot of people would not accept all of the time, especially when it comes to certain car models.

The body on this model comes as two piece design and the hardtop too, although a lot of owners like to take the rear glass out for safety reasons, these is easily done on these units without the need for cutting or anything like it.

A serious car needs serious wheels, in this case Work Equips would do nicely the 15 x 11 (195/50R15) and 15 x 11 (205/50R15) makes for some great track ripping scenes, if that is what the owner likes of course.

It is great to see car that is something different to what we seem to get a lot of the time, Mazda’s are cool cars, and they always have been. However, the problem for builders is, that when looking for an early nineties car in reasonable condition it should be noted that they get few and far between as time moves on.

Mazda RX-7 in beautiful red

We all know that the Mazda RZ-7 is powerful, but this one hits 586 hp and 424 tq @ 7,000 rpms, this is truly spectacular and totally mind numbing. Sure even hitting 7,000 rpms takes some doing on track but any machine that can present us with stats like those deserves our respect.

The basic car remains the same and this is how it should be, the body looks smooth and features only some slight changes that do not really affect the look or the lines of the car. For some people this just will not do because they want to see air dams and bulges.

The prominent feature of the engine is the Garrett GT4202 turbo which you couldn’t miss, as soon as the hood is popped to the left towards the front end of the car the huge bulging turbo with even larger pipes, it is there looking at you right in the face and very impressive it looks too.

The great thing about this model is that if you were driving along the highway and came across this machine cruising along you would not expect this car to be capable of hitting 550 hp!

The owners of this vehicle worked on it every weekend for two years, which is the sort of commitment required to get your wheels looking like this and to reach the standard where other entrants at shows simply have to take a peep at your car.

This is a 1990 model of the car, so it’s getting on a bit, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from the initial view, even so the older a project car is the better and in many cases the harder it is to get it up to the right standards.

Currently this Mazda will create an average looking 481 hp, but with a little tuning and knowhow there is no reason as to why this engine would not generate around 550 hp which is more like it.

The Mazda RX-7 has always been something different from the crowd, which would make this car something completely different as this has the looks and performance of something that even Mazda could not have dreamed of.

Pan Speed may be resident lap record holders at the Tsukuba track, but that was with the RX-8, this time it is the chance of the RX-7 some people believe that today’s modern cars are not a scratch on the older models.

Pan Speed are experts in the field of body conversion and technical improvements, so if you put that into the equation coupled with the excellence of the Mazda RX-7, that would mean that you have a winner, wouldn’t it?

Kris Robb’s Mazda RX-7 FC3S – Breaking the mould

The first thing that hits you about this Mazda is the fact that it is blue, very blue, yet once you get over that the colour actually grows on you. However, when you think that this entire project has only taken two years to complete, that is pretty remarkable.

Sporting a 13B RE Cosmo Intake and Custom Inlet under the custom made and uniquely vented hood, which goes part of the way to help this machine reach the predicted 550 hp measured at the rear wheels.

The RX-7 sits on nineteen inch Konig Crosshair Wheels that are dressed up in Nankang Tyres, 215 mm at the front and 235 mm at the rear. These are controlled by a suspension system that includes D2 36 way adjustable coilovers.

Inside the recaros look through the Momo Millennium steering wheel at the colour matched stereo and dash that features a brilliant set of Autometer Phantom dials. The colour theme is followed through to the outside where the full body kit is formed around the car, the locks, antenna and spoiler holes having been filled and smoothed over making the lines of the car soft.
