That changed when the next generation Mazda MX 5 was launched. The second generation Miata MX 5 was a whole new ball game, this car resembled the first generation MX 5 and that is why this version became well known for being a Mazda, rather than a retro replica of classic sports car from the 1960’s. The Mazda Miata MX 5 had grown up and import builder such as Jeff Abbotts have seen the potential that a car with this pedigree has got. This car has been specifically built for drifting, which is unusual to say the least for roadster style car and that is something that really stands out more than anything else, imagine being behind the wheel of roadster as slides around the bend of track with smoke bellowing from the rear wheels.

It must be one of the best feelings ever and something that all import builder fans would love to experience at least once!

In order to produce a cool drifting machine, the builders need to ensure that there is way too much power under the foot, this particular vehicle produces a massive 330 HP, which for a small roadster is way too much, but perfect for drifting. This next thing is the tyres, these have to be big and so a set of seventeen inch boots should do the job and they do! You may catch this car at Drift Day Association events in California.

These are the specs and features for this lovely Mazda Miata MX 5;

Product Description for the Precision alignment kits for maximum performance;

After the installation of either an Eibach Pro-Kit, Sportline spring kit or Pro-Street coil-over kit, the alignment of a vehicle should always be checked. Once a vehicle is lowered, wheel camber may become excessively negative, meaning the top of the tire is angled inward (toward the centre of the vehicle). While some negative camber aids in improving traction and road adhesion, too much can result in compromised handling and accelerated tire wear. Eibach offers a complete range of Pro-Alignment kits, which provide a simple, affordable solution to correct excessive negative camber. These alignment kits assist in adjusting the camber of a vehicle back to factory specifications. They also allow an experienced chassis tuner to utilize the increased adjustment range to dial-in a performance-oriented alignment that uses negative camber to maximize the true potential of a chassis. With correct alignment, turn-in becomes more precise and handling becomes gratifyingly crisp and predictable. High-speed stability is also enhanced, making an Eibach Pro-Alignment kit a necessity for the serious performance tuner. For the extreme lowering of Sportline and Pro-Street-S applications, look for the alignment kits with a greater range of alignment necessary to accommodate the extreme lowering.

This is a real southern California dream car, you can well imagine driving around those roads in a car that has a retro feel and yet as this car demonstrates it is a car that must be driven and it is almost every day. It has been cloaking up those miles under normal driving conditions, turning heads and raising a few smiles in the process, which is what it is all about.

This is an interesting car, with many stand out features such as the Jackson Racing M45 supercharger kit, with Eaton twin screw blower and the Megasquirt engine management system that keeps the whole thing running smoothly. However, even inside there is a touch of the retro feel with a cool Nardi steering wheel and KG racing cage all adding to the effect.
When new, this would have come with either the 1.6 litre or 1.8 litre engine and a choice of either a four speed auto or five speed manual gearbox. It would have been producing around 120 HP, which is good enough for a car that is so light, but following the modifications under the hood the power must have been increased, although there are no figures to back this up.

It used be a popular thing to do during the eighties to make a car appear to be another brand or model and it seems that this trend has continued into the world of import building and modders, with this Mazda or Lotus being a prime example of how to make a good car look like another equally brilliant car. It was said that Mazda drop head coupe was based on the Lotus Elan of the 1960’s and this Mazda Miata finished in the colours and style of a Lotus Elan from that time period, just goes to show exactly how close in design these two cars are. You have to hand it to David Wooley, who has taken this fantastic Mazda and made into something beautiful that resembles the classic Lotus of the past. A lot of care and consideration has gone into this design and despite the Mazda actually keeping its modern shape; you cannot help but to take a second glance at this car.
Product Description for the Short Ram Air Induction Intake System:

Short ram air induction intake system is engineered to reduce intake restriction by smoothing out and straightening airflow. This design allows the engine to inhale a larger volume of air than the OEM air filter assembly. The greater volume of air translates into a more powerful combustion to yield more horse power. Short ram air intake system takes it to the next level by making installation a breeze. The short distance of the pipe allows air filter to be easily attached. The intake system comes complete with quality aluminium pipes, filters, hoses, stainless steel clamps, and brackets. Give your Honda Accord the ultra high performance look, aggressive tune and incredible horsepower gain it needs. * Does not come with CARB sticker please check with your State’s Motor Vehicle Department for regulation. Coupling and hose maybe in the colour of red/blue/black.

Being a drop head coupe sport car, normally that would be enough for the owner, but in this no it was not and so we find that this fantastic car has a lot more to offer than what any onlooker would first think. The modifications appear to be mainly for looks rather than performance as the MX 5 or Miata already has plenty of speed to go round. However, for the import builder the shape and lines of the car are just as important, it is clear to see that there was no holding back when they got to work on the fantastic looking car. The original car would have offered the choice of a 1.6 litre or 1.8 litre power plant and a four speed auto or five speed manual gearbox. Nevertheless, these engines still produce between 120 HP and 131 HP, which on a car of this size, it weighs around 2,000 lbs is pretty useful when you put your foot down and open it up.
Product Description of the Weapon-R Secret Weapon Intake System:

“The Weapon-R Secret Weapon Intake System was designed, to increase air intake volume to the engine. The concept is to create two different air velocity profiles, one travelling at higher speeds than the other does. This technology increases air volume and speed to the engine, which naturally feeds the engine 3x more air than the conventional air intake system. The intake pipe is bent out of high quality 6061 Aluminium on our Automated CNC mandrel bender. Polished to a high show quality finish. The SW1 Air filter features a tuned velocity stack to increase velocity and decrease turbulence.”

Product Description

“Rvinyl Dash Kits are manufactured from a professional grade, 6-year rated automotive vinyl film. Rvinyl uses a three mil thick, vinyl that is available in a wide variety of high gloss colours and finishes to complement your vehicles interior. It is coated with a semi-permanent pressure sensitive adhesive, which allows for its application on your vehicles dash, but still allows you to remove the dash kit without damaging your cars interior. The Vinyl film is pre-cut to the specifications of your vehicles make, model and year (as listed and illustrated in the product diagram). It is designed to accent your vehicles dash. The dash kit solely accents the interior; it is not designed to fully cover the cars trim panelling. What are the vinyl dash trim kits physical properties? Thickness of film plus adhesive: .0042″” (0.010668cm) Application temperature: 50°F to 104°F (10°C – 40°C) Rvinyl recommends an application temperature of 70-80°F (21° -26°) End Use temperature after application: -5°F to 194°F (-20°C – 90°C)”
