Toyota Supra up for the 2010 Castrol Syntec Top Car Challenge

Castrol is the oil company when it comes to motorsport, the company is one of the largest in the world and the product that the firm promotes as being purpose made for racing is Syntec, a fully synthetic oil designed specifically for high performance motor sports where the oil plays an important role in the success of the team.

To prove this Castrol have been running the Castrol Syntec Top Car Challenge since 2008, the idea is to find the best car following a series of tests and challenges, this will gauge the overall performance and award points at each stage, the car with the most points at the end of the challenge wins.

2010 Castrol Syntec Top Car Challenge: The Tests

Lap Times: Teams compete for the single fastest lap time during a 20-minute session on the road course.

1/4 Mile Time: Cars compete for quickest ending times, the best out of 3 runs.

1/4 Mile Trap Speed: Cars compete for the fastest trap speed, best of 3 runs.

Horsepower: Using a dyno, cars will be tested to find who has the highest peak horsepower. Teams will be limited to 3 runs.

Power-to-Weight: Cars will be weighed at the dyno to calculate who has the best power-to-weight ratio.

Emissions: Vehicles will be tested with a 5 gas automobile emissions analyzer. Pass that sniff test!

Acceleration: 0-60 foot time.

Braking: 80mph-0 using a radar gun.

Endurance: Cars will have to test out their endurance in Los Angeles’ concrete jungle by driving to the track during the middle of rush hour traffic – and trust us, the 405 is a bitch.

The tuners and cars are selected by the editors of Eurotuner, Super Street, Import Tuner, 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords, Honda Tuning, & Modified. The challenge has begun! This model Honda is a one of those that often gets chosen by the older driver because they see it a little sporty, security of it being a Honda and because is a your average four door sedan car. This is a favourite amongst that target group and the reason why not too of these cars go on to become a great import builders finished.

Apart from that, this is a car ripe for modification. It has the body and style that lends itself to being just slightly altered with nip and tuck here and there. Under the hood is where most of the action is going to take place with plenty of a work and money spent on turning this not too bad engine into a beast.

The car is finished off in a high gloss black; with a few touches of gold paintwork add to the light effect on this car. It seems that black is a hard colour to use on a car because it shows up every little mark, scuff and speck of dirt. However, in the right hands this high gloss finish is a testament to the work and time that has gone into this car.

Could this be the coolest Nissan 240SX in the country if not the world? If it isn’t then we would like to see the car that beats this wonderful machine from Dennis Som. As you plainly see the car is a convertible, but that is no ordinary hood on there because it is the Tsunami Silvia hood one of only two in the US made by DDrug.

Ordinarily the colour would not be top of the list for build, either as it is just too orange, but the longer that you at the car the better the body work looks. This is an orange machine that people like, if this colour was on a Neon or something similar the driver would be laughed at.

Naturally, this sort of job does not come cheap and it is fortunate that the owner has managed to get a nice amount of sponsors behind him, which is always going to help when you are planning to get a car to this sort of level.

A collaboration is always going to produce something spectacular and this Scion XD is definitely some sort of super car that looks as if it has been factory made, but of course, we all know what a Scion XD looks like before the work has been done.

This car has been built by Team Koshak and All Star, this was originally designed for the SEMA 2008 show, the most prominent thing about the car is the roof, or rather the lack of one. This is something really makes a car stand from the rest and the way that this has been done is for impact, which they have achieved.

The colour green features heavily on this car and even as you inside there is a splash of Samari Green greets you in the centre console. This colour is themed all around the car with touches of carefully placed paint to highlight the colour throughout the entire project.

The cool silver Subaru WRX (2003)

These Subaru’s are great little cars get the right one and you could be hitting 150 mph with problem at all, apart from the cops with speed guns but that is just an occupational hazard. Anyway, by all accounts this car from the images does look like anything has been done to it. Sure, there are the odd cosmetic touches here and there, but to the average man or woman in the street this is simply a Subaru WRX from 2003.

Yet under the hood there are a few surprises like the IHI VF39 Turbo, STi Top Mount Intercooler, DeatschWerks 565cc Injectors and Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump, it that does not get you going then I am afraid that nothing is likely to get you going. We like cars like this one, a wolf in sheep’s clothing is probably the most appropriate words that we could put to this car, do not be fooled by what you first see, this car means business.

2003 Winning Lexus IS300

This is famous car, so I suppose that means that the owner Billy Shea is also famous. They say that this is probably the only IS300 that is known by all fans of import cars, as this one came in first at the Nisei Week Show Off and that is no mean feat either as it is the competition that all car owners in LA and probably the entire US want to win.

The work on this car is barely three years old and it has already reached its main goal, to win trophies and get into magazines. However, this car is something else; with brilliant colour and fantastic features, this Lexus is currently the supreme Lexus IS300 around at the moment. That in itself is something to celebrate.

The cool old school Honda Civic Si

Honda Civics used to be a favourite of either very young people or very old people, that was until the latest model came out and then the Honda Civic driver changed from those drivers to the more hip and trendy sort. However, when you of a Civic from 1994, normally the words cool and great would probably not feature, except in this case cool and great are minimum credits that we would give to this car owned by Jon Guadalupe aka “JonJon”.

There are two things that you notice here, the fantastic green colour that is a normal green colour that is used by Honda and the black top just ties it all together nicely. This is a Brand New 1 piece chrome like plated mesh grille insert kit. This grill will fit all Honda Civic Si models from the 2002-2005. This mesh grille insert is for the upper grille. Note: This is not to replace your factory grille, it is simply an insert to change the current look of your car because this grille is simply an overlay. Therefore if you do not have the same front end as the picture this will not work. The mesh grille insert will attach straight on top of your factory grille using the provided wiring harness. The mesh has a diamond style pattern. This is very popular in the automotive scene. The mesh will not restrict airflow into your engine. The diamond mesh pattern has opens of 1/4″ by 3/8″. The mesh is a 20 gauge material meaning that it is strong yet it is also pliable making this a great product to work with. The mesh is a chrome ‘like’ mesh because it is not true chrome but is resembles it because of the shinny finish.
