All Evos use the same 2.0 litre engine with a choice of either s five or six speed manual gearbox, but it is what can be done with the engine that is so impressive. Therefore, as the car pulls out of the factory you can expect to be receiving around 200 HP, but with some fine tuning this can easily be increased to over 400 HP and that is seriously impressive by any accounts.

Under the hood of this modified car there are plenty of branded parts, you can see Greddy, AMS and NX straight away and this stuff apart from being costly means business. This is not tinkering by anyone’s standards, this is building the car from factory specs to import builder perfection, which is the aim of the project, to build the best car around and this Evo 8 is easily there.

This car may be finished in black on yellow, but you should not hold that against it, colours are subjective to say the least and mean nothing. Performance is key here and despite the fact that there are no figure for the car, you can make a guess that they are not getting 200 HP out of this baby. If we had to guess this is getting closer to the perfect 400 HP and why not, it has the look and therefore should have what it takes too!

The Evolution 8 was launched in 2003 and although from the outside there are only subtle changes, the eighth evolution had some serious modifications to the brakes, suspension, electrics and not to mention the work done on the 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo charged engine. This engine provides around 230 HP, although with this kind of set up the sky it the limit to how much power the driver wants under their foot.

But the great thing about this car is that it can be modified fairly easily the only real limitation is budget, you can literally spend as much or as little as you need to in order to achieve the desired effect and this is what make the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution a true import builders dream machine. As this one is a fine example of what you can do, without going over the top with excessive body panels and bright paint jobs.

This smart looking Evo 8, is tidy and clean, with most of the work being done on the inside and in particular under the hood, where it can now achieve a very respectable 270 HP. This is due to the addition of Injen, HKS, Waverac and of course we must not forget those all import NGK’s, no car should be seen without these! At the end of the day, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is all about change and this car scores on all counts!

You may think that by changing minor things to car, that performance is not going to be affected but that is just not true, these seemingly minor changes actually have some serious effects on the overall performance of the car, especially when it comes to speed and braking. While braking is important what is under the hood is where the real work goes on, the Evo 8 can offer up to 400 HP, whereas the Evo 7 had just 276 HP to play with.

So back this modified version of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8, this car has the looks of a stylish concept car, it is the Lambo style doors that give that away, however despite that and serious red paintwork this is a car that has been built to perform too. This Evo 8 has it all, looks we can see and performance too, it is the ultimate in import building.

As far as performance goes, we need some stats; fortunately, these are available and make interesting reading too. This is a car that can go from zero to 60 mph in just 3.9 secs; it can clock up a top speed of 170 mph and it capable of running 12.4 secs over the quarter mile reaching a top speed of 108 mph in process. This stunning car has to be one of the best EVO 8’s in the country, unless anyone else has any other ideas!

Calling anything “XXX” is going to make someone want to take a look at it, there is something about triple X that stands more than a single or even a double X would do. So when we see Project XXX alongside the Evo brand then we instantly know that this is going to be a very interesting project to say the very least and the Mitsubishi Evo 8 MR known as Project XXX does not disappoint in any way.

Everything about this car says power and performance, it makes no matter from which angle to you from either, the bodyworks with it is curves, bumps and slots tells you that this car has been built with some purpose in mind. Still using the 2.0 litre turbo charged engine, this version of the car offers the owner some serious options to improve performance. In fact, the power output can range from 270 HP up to over 400 HP, so it is clear to see that this car has so much to offer the import builder not just on power but also in the way that the whole car is set up with body kits and other performance enhancing parts.

Finished in yellow and black this car has a sort of retro appearance to it, but when it comes to performance that the modifications made this is definitely not a retro car. It is modern build and even though its power output is at the lower end of the scale, does that really matter as it has the looks and styling of a cool car, which it is.

Under the hood, you will see the 4G63 2.0 litre turbocharged engine, this is a stock power plant and along the computer and intercooler the power is limited to 271 HP. Every one or two years a new evolution was created and each time it got better. initially the car was supposed to have been pinned down to an output of around 280 HP. but even in those early days there were cars offering a power output of up to 405 HP, such is the design of this car that has been pushed along by the success of Subaru.

This particular version is the evolution VIII, this came out during 2005 and 2006, powered by the same two litre turbo charged engine and fitted with a super five speed manual gearbox, the base model had around 271 HP, but once again this could easily be cranked up to over 400 HP. It is a marvellous piece of work and looks absolutely stunning in jet black.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, is a totally underestimated car and despite the tests that show it could out drag a Porsche 911 Carrera S and an Audi RS4 on the BBC’s Top Gear programme. However, all good things come to end and this UK based car is up for sale, details can be found on the Modified Cars website, no price is mentioned by if this car is half a good as it looks it will be worth every penny to the right person!

This particular version is the eighth evolution which places it in the early 2000’s, this is where things began to get exiting and the car took on a more menacing more rounded and aerodynamic look with the only feature that stands out is being an after thought is the rear boot lid spoiler. Although it does look cool and possibly helps to keep the rear wheels on the road.

The work on this car has been done in a very sympathetic way, what we mean is the car still has its original lines and shape, so to even the man in the street it is clear what make and model this car is, even though there is little indication on the exterior as what the car is. It still has that look of a family car that has been given a boost of carbon fibre modifications.

One thing is for sure, this car is no school run machine, it has been specifically modified to produce more power and therefore it stands to reason more speed too, so not only does this car look perfect from the outside. The view that most people would get of this car if they happened to come across it on the road would be the rear end of the car pulling away from them.

The model is owned and built by Damien Cahill of Columbia, MD; the Lancer is from 2003 and comes under the Evo 8 range. The beauty of these cars is that the owner can take parts from other models either earlier or later versions. This is what Damien Cahill has done very well, with parts from the Lancer Evo 9 such as the transmission and seats.

This is a nice looking car with a beautiful looking green chameleon paint job; the finish actually appears to be a two tone effect between blue and green depending on the light and the position on the car. This colouring appears to follow through the rest of the car including inside the engine bay.

The Lancer Evo 8 uses the CT9V variation of the 2.0 litre engine, with a choice of a five speed or six speed manual gearbox the post production car would have been well capable of achieving up to 271 HP, but this build can boast to delivering and massive 950 HP at the rear axles.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII was the first of its kind to hit the streets of North America, this followed the highly successful run of the Subaru Impreza WRX. The car has a huge 893 HP and offers around 667 lb ft of torque so there you have it, the car has the looks and power, in fact there is enough of each for a couple of cars, but it’s all wrapped up in one nice parcel.

Of course being a true import builder, this car is not finished and in fact as with many projects it probably never will be as there will always be something that needs sorting out or as in this case there are records to break including the eight second barrier.
