Nevertheless, what happens when you get that rare thing, a great looking exhibition winning car combined with a massive race winning performance of 360 horse power! This would be a hard concept to follow but it seems that in order for race car to be a winner it does not have to look like a car that has come from the mind of somebody stuck in a design office 24/7 thinking up ever more crazy ideas.

This is the ninth generation Mitsubishi Evolution MR it was built in 2006 and offers a great place to start for the import builder. This is a performance car in its own right with its 2.0 litre engine producing around 280 horse power from the off, so it is not that difficult to increase the power output by the careful addition of some specialist equipment. In fact, the car is made to evolve; after all, it has been done so many times before.

You have to simply admire what the owner of this car, Alex Dunn has done here. The actual car has subtle but very important additions to the exterior bodywork and the interior mechanics, so for the inexperienced eyes, this car looks like it may have done when it left the factory, but put this car against a factory fresh Mitsubishi Evolution MR and it will beat it hands down on performance and looks.

Of course it helps having your garage and being able to talk to some of the top tuners and builders around when you want to take on a project such as this one. However, it is not all about who you know or even how much cash you want to throw at a project, because at the end of the day all builds require time and hard work, you don’t get cars like this without either.

To come up with a car that has so much power takes experience and technical knowhow, we have to assume that builder in this case has been around the Mitsubishi Evo for some time and has a plan in place that allows the work to be carried out according to a tried and tested plan. Otherwise, it would be a matter or trial and error, which often takes a long time.

This is a masterpiece by anyone’s standards; the car would have needed to be almost completely stripped back to the bare body before the real work could even begin and then switching and changing the major components to produce this fantastic car. There is no way that this Evo has built on the basis of trial and error, this is a real pro import builder job done to the max.

There is very little that has not been touched on this build and so that means almost every part is new and that goes for the bodywork too. The electric blue colour may not be to every ones taste but it stands out from the rest of the cars, especially with those Volk wheels in gunmetal they complement each other perfectly.

This is an Evo X and therefore the latest configuration of specs provided by the manufacturer, not that many of those features are actually left in this car as most of the main business end stuff has been removed and replaced by more high performance parts.

The Evo X, came out in 2005 at the 39^th Tokyo Motor Show, back then it was named concept X, but they could not fool us that easily. The car uses the 2.0 litre turbo charged set up that produces around 280 HP, although it has been known to be beefed up to 360 HP on some UK models.

One thing is for sure and that is this model came around in 2005, using the same 2.0 litre engine with choice of five or six speed manual gear boxes; the base model would be producing around 287 HP as it left the factory so there is plenty of scope there for more.

The car has been given a new leash of life both inside and out, it could be said that this is an American dream car transferred into a small family sized car from Japan, if that is at all possible of course.

The EVO as they have come to be known is a relative newcomer to the US market probably starting around 2003, so that means the car itself is not going to found everywhere in the US and as such not many are going to know what is, especially if it has been debadged this would really confuse the locals.

This is a nice looking car, from outside the colour is right and on the inside a bit of thought has gone into the layout; this can only mean that whoever brought this car into the world of import building knew exactly what they wanted and how the finished article was going to look.

This is a Mitsubishi Evo IX and you do not seem to be getting many of these around at the moment, I cannot think why but mat maybe it is because the there are too many of these cars on the road and not on the track.

In fact surprisingly this is a road car and no doubt can be seen on the road in around Las Vegas, which for a car running with around 505 HP at just over six thousand revs, now that is just something that I would love to see pull off from the lights.

There has been extensive work done under the hood and it shows immediately as the hood is lifted, as there is hardly any room to move around the compartment let along add anything else and yet this car produces a whopping 360 WHP, which is not to be dismissed in too much of a hurry.

I have an affection for cars that look as they should do, with no huge bulges, skirts, arches or air dams, the car does not need any that. Because it has the answer to critics under the gas pedal and in many cases, there is probably no answer to that one on the road.

This is a classic example of someone who has gone out to the main dealer and bought a decent brand new car, for most people that would enough but for Chris Torres, that would simply not do and the car just had to stripped back to the basics and started over again from scratch.
