Nevertheless, what happens when you get that rare thing, a great looking exhibition winning car combined with a massive race winning performance of 360 horse power! This would be a hard concept to follow but it seems that in order for race car to be a winner it does not have to look like a car that has come from the mind of somebody stuck in a design office 24/7 thinking up ever more crazy ideas.

This is the ninth generation Mitsubishi Evolution MR it was built in 2006 and offers a great place to start for the import builder. This is a performance car in its own right with its 2.0 litre engine producing around 280 horse power from the off, so it is not that difficult to increase the power output by the careful addition of some specialist equipment. In fact, the car is made to evolve; after all, it has been done so many times before.

You have to simply admire what the owner of this car, Alex Dunn has done here. The actual car has subtle but very important additions to the exterior bodywork and the interior mechanics, so for the inexperienced eyes, this car looks like it may have done when it left the factory, but put this car against a factory fresh Mitsubishi Evolution MR and it will beat it hands down on performance and looks.

It is surprising how a car designed for the everyday use by families and even businesses the Mitsubishi Evo IX MR can easily be developed into a superb show car offering some great looks and excellent performance. In fact in the case the car offers a massive 838 HP can you just imagine how cool that would be under your right foot, drifting has never been any easier. Of course it helps having your garage and being able to talk to some of the top tuners and builders around when you want to take on a project such as this one. However, it is not all about who you know or even how much cash you want to throw at a project, because at the end of the day all builds require time and hard work, you don’t get cars like this without either. To come up with a car that has so much power takes experience and technical knowhow, we have to assume that builder in this case has been around the Mitsubishi Evo for some time and has a plan in place that allows the work to be carried out according to a tried and tested plan. Otherwise, … Continue reading →

Of course it helps having your garage and being able to talk to some of the top tuners and builders around when you want to take on a project such as this one. However, it is not all about who you know or even how much cash you want to throw at a project, because at the end of the day all builds require time and hard work, you don’t get cars like this without either.

Otherwise, it would be a matter or trial and error, which often takes a long time.

This is a masterpiece by anyone’s standards; the car would have needed to be almost completely stripped back to the bare body before the real work could even begin and then switching and changing the major components to produce this fantastic car. There is no way that this Evo has built on the basis of trial and error, this is a real pro import builder job done to the max.

Product Description of the Cosworth CNC Ported Big Valve Cylinder Heads Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX 4G63BT MIVEC (2.0L);

(4G63 – MIVEC) Built for the (06) Mitsubishi EVO… For over 40 years, Cosworth has been the leader in innovative multi valve cylinder head design. Their latest advancement is the Cosworth CNC Ported Big Valve Cylinder head range. Modified from OE cylinder head castings, substantial gas flow improvements and upgraded valve train components offer superior performance for your high performance engine. Each original cylinder head design is carefully evaluated and tested to establish the improvements required to meet the target performance level. Hours of testing and flow bench validation are used to determine the best advanced port design yielding maximum usable power and response. However, there is more to cylinder design than just maximum flow. It is critical that port velocity is maintained to ensure drivability and valve train components are matched to guarantee reliable performance. Once all of these factors have been tested and validated, the final port contour is digitized. Using the digitized program, we then reshape both intake and exhaust ports using a 5 axis CNC mill producing and accurate and consistent port shape every time. In addition to re-shaping and enlarging the intake and exhaust ports, most Big Valve Cylinder heads feature a re-shaped combustion chamber to un-shroud the valves increasing air flow and performance. After machining, each cylinder head is ultrasonically cleaned, serialized and then hand assembled with select high performance valve train components, ready to install on you engine. Features include: Enlarged Intake and Exhaust ports Large diameter stainless steel intake valves Large diameter Inconel exhaust valves Hi Rev valve springs Titanium Retainers Hardened Steel spring platforms Reshaped combustion chamber on most applications Flow bench proven design Dyno tested Machined Cosworth Logo Multi angle valve job Pre-assembled, ready to install

If you are intent on modifying an Evo then this is the model to do it with as it offers the builder so much to work with. This is because it is based on a serious production car to start with and that can make all of the difference when it comes to keeping the costs down, but still managing to keep the spirit of the car going. There is very little that has not been touched on this build and so that means almost every part is new and that goes for the bodywork too. The electric blue colour may not be to every ones taste but it stands out from the rest of the cars, especially with those Volk wheels in gunmetal they complement each other perfectly. For a 2.0 litre engine, it packs a serious punch with around 300 HP at the driver’s disposal through wheels. Originally there were several versions of this model available, the standard (Grand Sport Rally or “GSR” in some markets), RS (Rally Sport), SE (Special Edition) and MR (Mitsubishi Racing).
Product Description of the COBB Short Ram SF Intake System:

The COBB Tuning SF Intake utilizes their custom design to maintain optimal flow and net the ideal performance while remaining unedited from the factory velocity stack. The custom conical cloth filter feeds filtered air directly to the engine, while maintaining optimal intake velocity and minimizing turbulence found with many aftermarket intake systems. The COBB Tuning SF Intake system is compatible with Stage 1 and Stage 2 OTS (off the shelf mapping) provided for their AccessPORT ecu tuning device. COBB’s system utilizes several unique features in an effort to maintain optimal flow for performance while minimizing turbulence that can cause engine management problems. From a custom conical cloth air-filter element, they use a CFD-designed velocity stack leading to an unique air flow straightener grid. This straightener grid is specifically designed to smooth the incoming air flow as it passes the Mass Air Flow sensor for precise readings. This eliminates the “dead spots” experienced by other aftermarket intakes due to turbulence. NO other aftermarket Subaru intake system utilizes these critical design elements.

This is an Evo X and therefore the latest configuration of specs provided by the manufacturer, not that many of those features are actually left in this car as most of the main business end stuff has been removed and replaced by more high performance parts. The Evo X, came out in 2005 at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show, back then it was named concept X, but they could not fool us that easily. The car uses the 2.0 litre turbo charged set up that produces around 280 HP, although it has been known to be beefed up to 360 HP on some UK models. The Evasive Motorsports version of the Evo X is a pure racing machine, designed for speed rather than looks, although this car actually is very nice looking too! One thing is for sure and that is this model came around in 2005, using the same 2.0 litre engine with choice of five or six speed manual gear boxes; the base model would be producing around 287 HP as it left the factory so there is plenty of scope there for more. There are four models in the Evo IX range and these are The GSR (Grand Sport Rally), RS (Rally Sport), SE (Special Edition) and MR (Mitsubishi Racing) these are same car with different variations of spec. The modified version has some upgrades to the standard issue parts producing an impressive 350 HP due the brilliant reworking of the engine, so most of the mechanical work appears to have been done under the hood and it seems to have paid off big style!

The modified version has some upgrades to the standard issue parts producing an impressive 350 HP due the brilliant reworking of the engine, so most of the mechanical work appears to have been done under the hood and it seems to have paid off big style!

This is a classic Japanese classic car, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution originally made in 2005 so it is not too old, but the car that we see in front of us is far removed from the car that rolled off the production five years ago. The car has been given a new leash of life both inside and out, it could be said that this is an American dream car transferred into a small family sized car from Japan, if that is at all possible of course. The EVO as they have come to be known is a relative newcomer to the US market probably starting around 2003, so that means the car itself is not going to found everywhere in the US and as such not many are going to know what is, especially if it has been debadged this would really confuse the locals. This is a nice looking car, from outside the colour is right and on the inside a bit of thought has gone into the layout; this can only mean that whoever brought this car into the world of import building knew exactly what they wanted and how the finished article was going to look. … Continue reading →

Product Features

Super Lightweight T-6061 T-6 Aircraft Grade Billet Aluminium

High Quality Polished & Anodized Finishes

Designed to replace OEM accessory pulleys, OBX Overdrive Power Pulley Kits are designed to be lighter than the stock pulleys. By reducing the rotational mass, the engine uses less power to power accessories such as the alternator and power steering pump which translates into more available horsepower and torque. This well-known and highly utilized process is known as reducing parasitic drag from power-robbing accessories. Depending on application, some of our pulleys have a larger diameter than stock. By utilizing the process of over-driving, the accessory is utilized more efficiently by doing more work on a single spin of the pulley. OBX Overdrive Power Pulley Kits are a great upgrade for any driver to realize the full potential of his or her prized vehicle.

From just looking at the images, the car is not that far removed from the car that rolled off the production a few years ago, but how wrong you can be! There has been extensive work done under the hood and it shows immediately as the hood is lifted, as there is hardly any room to move around the compartment let along add anything else and yet this car produces a whopping 360 WHP, which is not to be dismissed in too much of a hurry. I have an affection for cars that look as they should do, with no huge bulges, skirts, arches or air dams, the car does not need any that.
OBX Blue Overdrive Power Pulley Kit 03-05 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII 4G63

Product Features

Super Lightweight T-6061 T-6 Aircraft Grade Billet Aluminium

Computer CNC Machined For Precision Balance

Increased Horsepower And Torque Across Entire RPM Range

Dyno-tested And Proven On Race Track

High Quality Polished & Anodized Finishes

Product Description

Designed to replace OEM accessory pulleys, OBX Overdrive Power Pulley Kits are designed to be lighter than the stock pulleys. By reducing the rotational mass, the engine uses less power to power accessories such as the alternator and power steering pump, which translates into more available horsepower and torque.

Priced at $85

OBX Limited Slip Differential 03-07 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII/IX (Front Differential ONLY)

Product Features

Eliminates harsh torque steer and under steering characteristics of other types of LSDs

Gear operated (no clutch plates to replace)

Designed for extremely tight cornering, positive tarmac control and quicker starts by transferring torque to both drive wheels

Minimal maintenance requirements (no special oil required)

Backed by manufacturer limited lifetime warranty

Product Description

A great upgrade for both street and race use, OBX Helical Limited Slip Differentials provide a much safer and more enjoyable driving experience.

In a vehicle with a standard open differential, power is distributed equally across both wheels. While turning, an open differential will send more power to the outside wheel making turning easier. However, if a one of the drive tires loses traction, the wheel that has no traction will spin faster making the car less controllable and causing spin outs.

OBX Helical Limited Slip Differentials are the perfect solution to counter these potentially dangerous situations. With an OBX LSD installed, the torque is transferred to the wheel with more traction while turning, which translates, into faster lap times, better drifting and overall performance for a much better driving experience.

Note: OBX LSDs are for manual transmissions only.

Priced at $415

Built for the (08 and up) Mitsubishi EVO… The JIC FLT-TAR is the flagship coilover system. All FLT-TAR coilovers are designed on US-spec vehicles for US streets, fitment and performance is unmatched. Included in the kits are pillow ball upper mounts with adjustable camber plates. For flexibility, the dampers have 15-way compression and rebound adjustability. The spring rates are of the linear-rate type with independent ride height adjustable lower brackets. This allows adjustment without compromising damper compression or rebound travel. Based off of racing technology, the FLT-TAR is a street performance suspension, customizable for full time track use.
