One of the favourite cars for modification has to be the fantastic Nissan 350Z; this is a car with a history despite only arriving on the scene in 2003, which incidentally is the same model that we are featuring today. Back to the 350Z though its pedigree can be directly traced back to the early 1970’s and the famous Datsun 240Z, which at the time was a serious sports car and gained the attention of builders even back then, when it was not PC to drive Japanese.
When we think of the Nissan Skyline it is easy to think about the later fourth and fifth generation models as these are the ones that are more recent and therefore more popular. However, it was in 1989 when the GTR was reborn and although technology was limited at that time, Nissan made up for this with a style and design, the GTR that we know of today comes from the cool third generation Skyline GTR.

To many people and even die hard fans of the Nissan Skyline it is easy to think that this is a car born in the opulent eighties, but in fact the Nissan Skyline can be traced back to 1957! Back then, it was a stylish compact car that came in a sedan and convertible version. However, today the Skyline is a completely different car, in some cases it could easily be described as a brute of a machine and for good reasons.

The Nissan 350Z had good nine year production run, during which time the car has basically remained the same but for a few minor changes and upgrades. It had the great 3.5 litre power unit that produced a slightly under rated 287 HP, but with some factory tweaks this could easily be brought up to a more reasonable 350 HP and a choice of either a racy six speed manual or the smoother five speed auto gearbox.
It may seem to be a strange fact, but the brilliant Nissan 350Z was only in production for a mere six years. However, what a time it has been for this is a car that turned the production sports car industry on its head by offering the knowledgeable consumer a chance to get behind the wheel of a performance car for a reasonable price and many drivers took up the chance to become king of the road.

When Nissan redesigned the 240 SX the transition from S13 to S14 was a complete change of direction and it split the fan base. For there were those that liked the sporty coupe style of S13 with is pointed front end etc, but the S14 while appearing to be a step back in time, actually offered the import builder a brilliant opportunity on plate. For this is a car that has been designed to be modified, in fact try finding one today that has not been modified in any way.
We are looking at the fifth generation Nissan Skyline or as some folks may wish to call it the R34 GT-R, this is a cool car with a slightly shorter body than its predecessor is but for what it lacks in length, it makes up for in other departments. The car is very similar to the R33, but Nissan took on board the concerns of the drivers and streamlined it but remodelling the whole aspect of the car to suit the demands of the 21st century consumer. When you spend a lot of time looking at new or nearly new cars, they can often blend into one mass, but when a car from the 1970’s pops up, it is like a breath of fresh air as some of these cars are real stars. Of course, not all cars from that era are classy or even nice to look at, but I think the Datsun K Series really stands out from crowd, it has lines and curves that only cars from these era could have.
