As normal one of the first jobs would normally be to strip the car down and begin to build it back up to higher specification than before, it is the standard way to go. Then there would be the cash required to complete the job, but not in this case as most of the work had been done. building the perfect modified car is going to cost some serious cash, in this case the builder estimates around $30,000, so we can take it that they paid considerably less than that.

The brilliance of the this car is that more or less all the essential work has been done in Japan to very high standards, so this car is fact a ready made gem. However, they are not always going to be like that, the builder here has contacts in Japan so they are able to check the cars over before purchase and this makes all of the difference between a lemon and a gem.

There is more to this car than meets the eye, sure, it has got 260 HP under the hood, this made possible by the original builder in Japan utilising some of the fantastic parts available from the S14 and other models. This the Stream Z GT it’s the brainchild of magazine owner and drift fan Daijiro Inada, he used to be content with a nice standard S15 Silvia, but that was okay, but he had in mind something else, something so different that it will daze and confuse everyone that lays their eyes on this wonderful machine.

These toe rods are fully adjustable and feature heim joints for the ultimate in vehicle control. For the rod ends, it is a misconception that all heim joint/rod ends make noise or that you need to have to grease it and such. That is not the case. There are different types of heim joints/rod ends that you can purchase for different applications. Most of the ones that do make noise are designed for machinery applications and not automotive/racing applications. Given they still fit and can handle the same load capacities, you shouldn’t use them on your car. If it comes with a grease nipple on it, that’s usually your first indication you shouldn’t use it. The rod ends that Battle Version uses are a 3 piece design with a Teflon injected liner. There are a couple benefits to using a Teflon injected liner in that they are self lubricating which means you don’t need to grease or maintain them (adding grease or a rubber boot will cause water or dirt particles to stay or get trapped in the rod end and wear out the liner quicker). Second is that the liner acts as a separator between the race and housing of the bearing. A normal heim/rod end will have a bit of play between the race and the housing. The car image says it all, sometimes racing has to be a fine line between raw speed and art, how the two crossover is down to the circumstances that the car finds itself in, racing around the circuit or having gallons of lacquer applied to the shell in order for it to be shown at the latest car event.

For a car to be able to have a foot in both camps the car and the owner has to be something special, this Nissan 180SX is the result of a super imagination that can only a racer at heart but there is a little bit of artist stuck in there somewhere.

Cars like this should not be raced at all, they are simply too good for that and one accident means the end of the game, at that point everyone has to go back to square one, which is good in some cases, but maybe not necessarily this one, please!
