When we talk about age, it is normally at the cost of the person or object, but once something reaches a certain age, then it is a compliment and this is what applies to this absolutely fantastic Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-EX from 1977 making it a stylish thirty three years old! However, this car was probably the most unlucky of all, for it came out during the 1970’s fuel crisis.
Despite the bad timing, this second generation Nissan Skyline was featured at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1972, its 2 litre engine, with five speed gearbox and rear wheel drive, was an exciting concept, while other makes of car for still boxy in shape, the Skyline was sleek with aerodynamic features. This was a car that was ahead of its time and many makes followed the design and style of this model.
For the current owner, this is more than a modifying job, this would be a full restoration project and as such would require more than just brute power and a paint job, a restoration project is like doing an old house up, it has to be done carefully and with considerable care with attention to the finest of details. The second problem is age, finding parts for something this old is a major problem you simply cannot go down to the local yard and find one of these cars.
However, despite these issues, the finished car is just wonderful, you would be hard pressed to find a better example of one of these in the US, maybe even the world this project is that good. Inside the car is almost totally unchanged with no modern additions; it is like travelling back in time to when driving a Datsun was a statement and too many people it was the wrong statement.
