We have looked at many versions of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, but the best has to be the eighth generation, sure the ninth and tenth versions are better equipped. However, they also cost a lot more so the difference between the different versions will have an effect on the modifications that the import builder is able the carry out, therefore this is why the Evo 8 is the best for the job at the moment.
All Evos use
To get an idea of the thinking behind this car we need to look at the Honda Civic during the mid eighties, this is a car born out of the need to produce something for everybody and it certainly does that, with four body styles and the choice of several engine and gearbox options. However, the car that we are interested here is the three door hatchback that would have been powered by the 76 HP 1.5 litre engine.
When we think of the Nissan Skyline it is easy to think about the later fourth and fifth generation models as these are the ones that are more recent and therefore more popular. However, it was in 1989 when the GTR was reborn and although technology was limited at that time, Nissan made up for this with a style and design, the GTR that we know of today comes from the cool third generation Skyline GTR.
The evolution III brought in
It makes no difference what you feel about the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo you have to hand it to the firm for producing a car that actually lives up to the Evolution term. For since its launch way back in 1992 the design team have work on the next model and then the next, this has continued until the present day where we see the tenth evolution. However, this time we will be looking a couple of years back at the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII.
Whether you are going to call this a Solara or Camry makes little difference, after all that is merely a name, but the car behind it is something special. The Solara is large two door coupe powered by either a 2.2 litre four cylinder engine or the more preferable 3.0 litre V6 power unit capable of delivering over 200 HP with ease and with the potential for much more too, despite there being just two choices of gear box the four speed auto and the five speed manual.
In the six of production, Mitsubishi Motors built around 37,000 FTO’s so it is highly likely that today that number has reduced considerably and therefore we are looking at a rare machine indeed. Not only is the FTO a decent two seat sports car that offers a choice of a 1.8 litre or the 2.0 litre power unit, with a five manual, four speed or five speed semi auto gearbox, this is a very desirable car.
During its time the car had
The Nissan 350Z may be the modern two seater sports car that we have all come to love, but this is a car with a heritage. In fact, if you really want to trace it back into the past you end up with the classic Datsun 240Z, which is a car that you do not see that often these days and that is a real shame. However, it is because of these early cars that we end up with the fantastic Nissan 350Z that we see before us.
We often look at the work that import builders have done, these are remarkable and resourceful people who are often on limited budgets and working on their cars in whatever spare time they have. So what is it like for those lucky folk at the other end of the scale, the pro builders whose work is their life and livelihood all rolled up into one big exciting package.
On the pro circuits, there are those
The Mitsubishi 3000GT may have started off as the Mitsubishi GTO but whatever they call it this is a very interesting machine with an even more interesting background. The Mitsubishi 3000GT or GTO has been with us since the early nineties and with some minor changes only, this car is more or less the same car over its ten year production run, which is quite extraordinary for time when car production was at its height.
The RX-7 is one of the best Mazda’s around and probably one of the most underestimated cars on the road, Mazda appears to be associated with family cars that used a strange engine. These were and to a certain extent still are cars that not everyone wanted or would even consider to drive; this is simply because of the non standard Wankel rotary style engine, which in the case of the RX-7 is a twin rotor 1146 cc version.
