However, they also cost a lot more so the difference between the different versions will have an effect on the modifications that the import builder is able the carry out, therefore this is why the Evo 8 is the best for the job at the moment. All Evos use the same 2.0 litre engine with a choice of either s five or six speed manual gearbox, but it is what can be done with the engine that is so impressive. Therefore, as the car pulls out of the factory you can expect to be receiving around 200 HP, but with some fine tuning this can easily be increased to over 400 HP and that is seriously impressive by any accounts. Under the hood of this modified car there are plenty of branded parts, you can see Greddy, AMS and NX straight away and this stuff apart from being costly means business. This is not tinkering by anyone’s standards, this is building the car from factory specs to import builder perfection, which … Continue reading →

This is not tinkering by anyone’s standards, this is building the car from factory specs to import builder perfection, which is the aim of the project, to build the best car around and this Evo 8 is easily there.

This car may be finished in black on yellow, but you should not hold that against it, colours are subjective to say the least and mean nothing. Performance is key here and despite the fact that there are no figure for the car, you can make a guess that they are not getting 200 HP out of this baby. If we had to guess this is getting closer to the perfect 400 HP and why not, it has the look and therefore should have what it takes too!

To get an idea of the thinking behind this car we need to look at the Honda Civic during the mid eighties, this is a car born out of the need to produce something for everybody and it certainly does that, with four body styles and the choice of several engine and gearbox options. However, the car that we are interested here is the three door hatchback that would have been powered by the 76 HP 1.5 litre engine. But the Civic is nothing but versatile and because of this it should be a dream car for import builders as they need cars with plenty of spares available and they also have to be something different too, which the Civic is. So take this unassuming looking car and start to pull it apart and you are left with a good base for a great build. The first thing that stands out with this car is the colouring, this bright yellow and blue design is the colouring of builder racing team, Spoon Sports, this team is well known in Japan not just as a racers.

Nevertheless, as testers for Honda too, this car from 1985 is significant because this is when the company was formed, this is where Spoon started and now Tatsuru Ichishima the president of Spoon is a national hero and racing icon.

The car is totally original, this is what Spoon was built on and so it deserves a bit of recognition, as all cars that a led the charge should be, this is a turning point for the company. If the car failed there would be no Spoon Sports as we know it. The same can be said for other top teams too; there future is based firmly on what happened in the past!

When we think of the Nissan Skyline it is easy to think about the later fourth and fifth generation models as these are the ones that are more recent and therefore more popular. However, it was in 1989 when the GTR was reborn and although technology was limited at that time, Nissan made up for this with a style and design, the GTR that we know of today comes from the cool third generation Skyline GTR. The evolution III brought in that classic two door coupe body shape that we still see in the fifth generation car, it would have been powered by the straight six 2.6 litre engine and came with a standard five speed manual gearbox. Customer options were clearly not top of the manufacturers wish list with this car, but 313 HP soon made up for any short fall on the optional upgrade menu to start with! So this is a 1990 model, that makes it one of the early versions and yet this car looks just good now as it did when it pulled of the showroom, in fact it is probably better in many ways as this is a modified car.

Unlike some import builder cars, this one has been worked on in all areas, from the hi gloss black paintwork to the serious modifications that have taken place under hood, there are no figures available but we can assume that there is more power under foot too!

Taking a glimpse in the engine bay there is one thing apparent here, top brands! We see Greddy, Apexi, Nismo and more, this is what we need to see when the hood is popped. However, even the exterior oozes style and designer coolness, with a set of Emotion XT7 alloy wheels sporting Falken Azenis tyres. This is a complete car now and it shows, its original and yet in some ways it is new, what combo that is in a modified car.

It makes no difference what you feel about the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo you have to hand it to the firm for producing a car that actually lives up to the Evolution term. For since its launch way back in 1992 the design team have work on the next model and then the next, this has continued until the present day where we see the tenth evolution. However, this time we will be looking a couple of years back at the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII. The Evolution 8 was launched in 2003 and although from the outside there are only subtle changes, the eighth evolution had some serious modifications to the brakes, suspension, electrics and not to mention the work done on the 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo charged engine. This engine provides around 230 HP, although with this kind of set up the sky it the limit to how much power the driver wants under their foot. But the great thing about this car is that it can be modified fairly easily the only real limitation is budget, you can literally spend as much or as little as you need to in order to achieve the desired effect and this … Continue reading →

This engine provides around 230 HP, although with this kind of set up the sky it the limit to how much power the driver wants under their foot.

But the great thing about this car is that it can be modified fairly easily the only real limitation is budget, you can literally spend as much or as little as you need to in order to achieve the desired effect and this is what make the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution a true import builders dream machine. As this one is a fine example of what you can do, without going over the top with excessive body panels and bright paint jobs.

This smart looking Evo 8, is tidy and clean, with most of the work being done on the inside and in particular under the hood, where it can now achieve a very respectable 270 HP. This is due to the addition of Injen, HKS, Waverac and of course we must not forget those all import NGK’s, no car should be seen without these! At the end of the day, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is all about change and this car scores on all counts!

A great upgrade for both street and race use, OBX Helical Limited Slip Differentials provide a much safer and more enjoyable driving experience. In a vehicle with a standard open differential, power is distributed equally across both wheels. While turning, an open differential will send more power to the outside wheel making turning easier. But if a one of the drive tires loses traction, the wheel that has no traction will spin faster making the car less controllable and causing spin outs.

This is the first generation of the Solara although the Camry sedan has been around for much longer, but these two models are hardly comparable at all, as it seems that the name is just a branding, but the car is a completely different entity. It has style and those perfect lines that only a two door coupe can offer.

For coupe this car has plenty of size to it, as it based on the Camry chassis which is almost five metres in length have a cool looking coupe powered by a superb 3.0 litre V6 engine, what more could an import builder require! Well that is just it, and import builders job begins with a car such as this, when things look as if they are just perfect the project now would be to simply take it beyond that point.

That is exactly what has happened here, this may be a Toyota Solara, but the car in front of you is more than just a Toyota it is a design that pushes the boundaries beyond the dreams of the designers and into world where perfection in design and performance are taken to the limit. The deep black finish show the car off to the max and under the hood its spotless appearance means that no part no how small has been left untouched, this is perfection in the shape of a Solara.

Short ram air induction intake system is engineered to reduce intake restriction by smoothing out and straightening airflow. This design allows the engine to inhale a larger volume of air than the OEM air filter assembly. The greater volume of air translates into a more powerful combustion to yield more horse power. Short ram air intake system takes it to the next level by making installation a breeze. The short distance of the pipe allows air filter to be easily attached.

During its time the car had ups and downs, it was mainly built for Japanese market and yet in a similar way as the Nissan Skyline did, so called “Grey Imports” meant that the FTO began to appear in sorts of places. This is how the demand began, because if an import builder happened to spot one of these cars at a meet, they would immediately want to know what it was and how they could get hold of the FTO.

Initially the power would be restricted at around 123 HP, which for a car of this size is nothing to get excited about, but Mitsubishi gave the FTO more power taking it up to a respectable 197 HP, of course a skilled import builder would be able to squeeze a bit more out the car. As we see with this car in the images, there has been extensive work under the hood the main object being more power under the foot.

This car has the looks and specs of a car built for performance, yet it also has the style of an import builder who wants to impress and the only way to do that is by producing an exterior that assaults the eyes from the start. whether you are into cars or not, you simply cannot help yourself but look at this machine and think a lot of hard work, time and money has gone into that car, but it has been worth it.

The Nissan 350Z may be the modern two seater sports car that we have all come to love, but this is a car with a heritage. In fact, if you really want to trace it back into the past you end up with the classic Datsun 240Z, which is a car that you do not see that often these days and that is a real shame. However, it is because of these early cars that we end up with the fantastic Nissan 350Z that we see before us. Naturally, not all of us have the resources that builders like Donlyson Auto Concepts have, but it is their business after all and they have access to all of the skills and products that many of import builder fans could only dream of. However we do get to see and admire the end results of the work put into these cars and with each project being different you just never know exactly what you are going to find. Traditionally the Nissan 350Z would have been delivered with a classic 3.5 litre V6 producing up to 306 HP through either a five speed auto or six speed manual gearbox. Although some builders have … Continue reading →

Although some builders have been known to drop a 4.5 litre V8 power unit into the car, this project has kept the original engine and worked with that to produce this powerful yet very beautiful version of the Nissan 350Z.

All of the work on this car has been carried by Donlyson Auto Concepts, the list is very long indeed, with almost anything that can be upgraded under the hood, and the body having been done there is hardly any room for improvement for this car. Could this be one of the best Nissan 350Z’s around! Who knows, all we can say is that this car is a contender and well deserved it is too!

These are the specs and features for this highly modified Nissan 350Z;

Drifting is a serious sport these days and as such it attracts major sponsorships and advertising, even the big firms want in and that is testament to the success of drifting in the US. This car is the Mazda RX 8 run by Justin Pawlak and Bergenholtz Racing, it was a modified from new. Therefore, this is car that has not only never been on the road, it had never been raced before either and yet by the end of its first season it had finished ninth in the championship.

The car uses a three rotor Wankel 20B engine from Mazdatrix and once it was installed in the car with a Tial Sports GT40XSPL turbo, a Burns Stainless Inconel turbo header, a Tial Sports wastegate, a Tial Sports blow-off valve and a HKS intercooler this car is producing around 600 HP. Drifting is all about putting down the power in the right places, this has the power and the driver, so it is only a matter of time before this car is a champion!

The Mitsubishi 3000GT or GTO has been with us since the early nineties and with some minor changes only, this car is more or less the same car over its ten year production run, which is quite extraordinary for time when car production was at its height. There are four versions of the three litre engine, the 6G72 3.0 L V6 (160 HP), SOHC 12v (221 HP), DOHC 24v (276 HP) and last but not least the DOHC 24v twin-turbo (319 HP). The attraction to this car is obvious, it has the looks, style, power and an iconic GTO name, which the company dropped because of the connection with Ferrari and Pontiac, Mitsubishi, needed this car to be become a standalone sports coupe, which of course it has become. This particular model comes in silver, which was not the most popular colour at the time, but now it actually looks like an interesting car, with just some flashes of red brakes visible through those beautiful eighteen inch Volk alloy wheels.
The Mitsubishi 3000GT may have started off as the Mitsubishi GTO but whatever they call it this is a very interesting machine with an even more interesting background.

This particular model comes in silver, which was not the most popular colour at the time, but now it actually looks like an interesting car, with just some flashes of red brakes visible through those beautiful eighteen inch Volk alloy wheels. The beauty of this modification is that it offers the best of all worlds, it would be no surprise to see it cruising past you on the road and yet it can equally be at home on the track too. This is a very fine line to be on and yet the Mitsubishi 3000GT does it so well, with a bit of style thrown in for good measure.

HPS short ram intake systems are an economical alternative to our cold air systems and deliver performance, value and ease of installation. HPS short ram intakes are easy to install under the hood and cost less compared to the cold air intake systems. During the development process, we found certain applications respond favourably to shorter inlet lengths over our longer cold air designs. For these applications, we offer a short ram system only. With HPS in house dyno, we are able to locate the filter in the coolest area of the engine compartment to deliver the best performance of the short ram air intake systems.

These were and to a certain extent still are cars that not everyone wanted or would even consider to drive; this is simply because of the non standard Wankel rotary style engine, which in the case of the RX-7 is a twin rotor 1146 cc version. However, the RX-7 is a sports coupe, a car worthy of being looked at as being cool and stylish; this is where the team behind the Genki 7 Mazda RX-7 build have their work cut out. But this job is helped by the actual design of the car itself, it looks great because it has that sleek low line that flows right from the front to the rear in one easy movement. One of the main features of this build is that huge spoiler at the rear; it looks odd because it breaks up the line of the car. However, this carbon fibre beauty, adds a touch a performance car to the RX-7 if it ever needed it and because it … Continue reading →

One of the main features of this build is that huge spoiler at the rear; it looks odd because it breaks up the line of the car. However, this carbon fibre beauty, adds a touch a performance car to the RX-7 if it ever needed it and because it has been left in the natural colour, it stands out more than it would if they had colour coded the spoiler.

Basically, what they have done here with this RX-7 is taken a good car and made it into a great car by using their knowledge of racing and aerodynamics to produce this brilliant looking car. This RX-7 would be equally at home on the track or cruising down the highway on the way to the local super store to collect the week’s groceries; one thing is for sure this is RX-7 that turns heads wherever it goes.
